Church holds camp weekend

Monday morning May 23,
physical exercises were al-
tered when Phyllis Keifer
brought two six-week old
kittens from the farm to
spend the day .entertaining
residents. Mrs. Joan Jacobs
helped with the weekly dis-
cussion group.
Melville Presbyterian
church, with Rev. Ken Innes
officiating, held Sunday ser-
vice. There was a good
attendance of the congregat-
ion which made an enjoyable
afternoon for the residents.
Wednesday was film day.
The residents enjoyed a film
on the history of Canada. The
afternoon films were on
Ontario as seen from a
helicopter and for a special
treat an animated story about
Canadian Indians and beav-
ers.
The monthly birthday
party was hosted by the
Brussels Majestic WI. Freida
Pipe and Alice Brothers
played a piano duet'and Lyle
&others showed some pic-
tures of Brussels from long
ago.
Wednesday afternoon May
25 was the Fashion Show.
Models were Sadie Hall,
Cora Gibson, Margaret
Weir, Maggie MacDonald,
Debbie Trollope and Frank
D�rtn, The draw for the' door
prize was made by Frank
Dunn and won by Maggie
MacDonald.
BAPTISMS AT MELVILLE
The Sacrament of Baptism
was performed Sunday, May
22 at Melville Presbyterian
church for Melissa Peggy
Ann McLellan, daughter of
Alvin and Pam McLellan and
Scott Jonathan Gowing, son
of Ken and Nancy Gowing.
CAMP WEEHEND
Melville church's annual
camp weekend and congreg-
ational picnic was held Frt-
day, May 27 to Sunday, May
29 at Camp Kintail.
The Friday evening weiner
mast was attended by 17
people.° By Saturday, the
numbers had swelled to 42.
Activities on Saturday
were: an observation hike;
caning, young children
playing on the beach, Alfred
Knight doanted material and
taught crafts.
A pork chop barbecue was
held Saturday evening. Marg
Krauter layed a tape des-
cribing life in Damascus.
Major David Krauter and his
family will be stationed in
Damascus in the near future
and the tape had been made
by the people they will be
replacing, telling them what
to expect.
On Sunday the congrega-
tion joined the campers for
church service and a potluck
picnic. During service, the
campers performed a reli-
gious play.
Sunday's inclement wea-
ther caused few problems as
McDonald Hall was large
enough to accommodate
everyone for lunch. Races
were held and games includ-
ing charades were played in
the hall.
Recyclable material required.
On Friday, June 24, there
will t;e a drive to collect
recyclable material among
the Mennonite and Brethren
In Christ churches including
the Brussels Mennonite Fel-'
lowship. The public is invited
to leave their donations at
the church between 2 p.m.
and 7 p.m.
The project is organized
by Mennonite Central Com-
mittee to: demonstrate re-
sponsible stewardship of
God's resources in our com-
munity; provide a more
acceptable alternative to our
present methods of waste
disposal; help us consider
ways to reduce the amount of
waste ,created by our life-
styles; raise money for the
work of MCC around the
world in the Name of Christ.
All newspaper must be
bundled and tied with strong
strittg or twine only. Bundles
should' not be more than 15
inches high.
PLAN TO MARRY
Do not bring slick cover
magazines, paper back
books, soap boxes or cereal
boxes. Cardboard must be
separated from newspaper.
Only clean corrugated card-
board is acceptable.
Plastics of any kind are not
acceptable.
When contributing glass,
remove all metal lids and
caps, plastic , rings, dtc. -
paper labels do not need to be
removed.
Labels should be removed
from metal cans and cans
flattened. Pop cans are not
acceptable. All kinds of scrap
metal are accepted.
Plastic bags are not recycl-
able - bring material in
cardboard boxes.

' PEOPLE WE KNOW
Shelly Triebner, Wood-
stock visited her Grandmoth-
er, Mrs. Jane DeVries for the
weekend. On Sunday they
both attended a shower for
Sherry DeVries in Wood-
stock.
Catering group give
$6000 to recreation
The volunteer catering
group from Brussels, Morris
and Grey have again donated
$6000 to the Brussels Re-
creation Parks and Commu-
nity Centre Board,
Since the group was form-
ed, they have donated
$38,000. The catering group
is a great asset to the
Community Centre.
NEW BALL DIAMOND
As the ball season is in full
swing now, the ball diamond
at the Brussels Park is more
and more in demand.
The recreation committee
have constructed a second
diamond near the community
centre. This should help out
the situation.
BASEBALL
Spring is supposed to be
here and so starts baseball.
The weather hasn't been
very cooperative resulting in
few scores to report.
Thanks to the following

'Brussels: T -ball - Ron Clark-
son and Lynn Taylor; mite
girls - Bonnie Jacklin; mite
boys - Larry Rice; squirt girls
-Sharon Waggle; squirt boys
- Dave McCutcheon; peewee
girls - June Bremner; pee-
wee boys - Murray Lowe;
bantam girls - Karen Parker.
The mite boys have had
one game with Winthrop and
lost.
The squirt girls have had
two games, one with Win-
throp and the other with
Walton. They lost both.
The peewee boys have had
three games. They won
against Winthrop, lost
against Walton and won
against Blyth.

celebrated at Calvin -Brick
United Church on Sunday,
May 29 by a full congrega-
tion.
The service was conducted
by the Rev. Bonnie Smith who
is presently ministering at the
Auburn charge.
Special music was provided
by the triple trio, Patrick Cull,
Alison Coultes, Katherine
Procter, Steven Coultes,
Heather McIntosh, Ruth Hig-
gins. Cathy Dow, Corey Mc-
Kee and Angela Coultes,
members of the Belgrave
Children's Choir under the
direction of Mr. George Cull

the weekly euchre which was

sure. Cows sold easier. All
