Soccer now at SDHS
The field is covered with
brilliant dandei'ons, the sun
is shining an there are
leaves popping up I over the
place. Too many of ou, this
might not mean muc but to
some of the more ob. rvant
people, these signs ight
indicate that spring 'hks,
finally arrived.
It appears that spring fever
has hit the notorious SDHS
students' council, as well!
Ye$, it is true. As a result of
this unusual situation, the
students' council has made
arrangements for the stu-
dents to play another fun and
exciting intramural game --
everyone's all-time favourite -
soccer!
For this game, the houses
have been divided into two
sign. lit categories, guys
and girls. Phcjrls_play first
and the game is kicked off at
11:40. The guys follow with a
game of their own.
So far, Phoenix is leading
with 100 points, closely fol-
lowed by Aurora Borealis
house. Taurus and Comets
are tied for last place with 0
points. The response for this
particular intramural game
(especially from Taurus and
Comets) has been heart-
warming. May the game go
on and may the best -spirited
house win!

SDHS
There are walk-a-thons,
run-a-thons, bike-a-thons,
swim-a-thpns, skate-a-thons,
roll-a-thons and now, a skip-
a-thon.
You know, some of us have
decided jumping rope is a
little bit harder than a lot of
people think, especially if you
haven't done it for quite
awhile.
came to this conclusion
Skip-a-thon was Tuesday
after bringing my old skip-
ping rope out of retirement
recently. Solite of you may
wonder why 1 (the laziest
'person in Canada, possibly
the world) would decide to
take up skipping. Well, the
"blood, sweat and tears" is
for a good cause.
I am one of the many
students at SDHS who will be
taking part in the Ontario
Heart Fund's "Jump Rope
for Heart" skip-a-thon.
This amazing and inspira-
tional event will be held
outside (weather permitting)
at SDHS on May 17, from
noon to 3 p.m.
Since very few people can
skip for three hours straight,
the "skip ec. ' are grouped
into teams of six..The time is
divided equally among them.
Each person has six stints of
five minutes each. The teach-
er organizing this campaign
is Mr. Howard. He was
surprised at the overwhelm-
ing response from the stu-
dents. Instead of the eight or
ten teams that were expect-
ed. there are now about 30
teams.
Of course, since this is such
a good cause, you'll gener-
ously sponsor many students.
But some of us needed an
added incentive. So, prizes
will be awarded to those with
many pledges. For those with
$15 pledged -a skipping rope;
$25-a T-shirt and $75-a gym
bag. The top six students who
raise a minimum of 5100 will
receive a jogging suit.
I am hoping alot of people
will support our skip-a-thon.
The Ontario Heart Fund's
skip-a-thon has even moti-
vated those of us (including
me) who usually ignores that

Recently my humble but noisy home had
a very friendly visitor. While mom was in
Toronto last year she met a lady, Jean
Remoe. Jean is originally from England so
she retains her strong English accent. She is
a widow living in a suburban home, with two
children both who are living away from
home.
When mom was explaining how to get to
our home, she said we lived right across
from a large bush (woods). Upon arriving
Jean explained her kind of bush: round,
fairly small and green.
Sometimes we don't appreciate our busy`
but simple way of life. When we took Jean
down to the bard she was delighted with
"such pretty eyes" of the new calves. She
was surprised that so many running around
could find their mother so easily.
While visiting family members' homes
in the evening she thought it so creepy
because there was little light going from
one farm to the next. Jean heard the cock
ring two different rings in the morning. We
don't even here him any more.
Also Jean was surprised we had no
additives in our home prepared foods. But
the most valuable Jean found was our
togetherness as we visited our own families
apd the hospitality she received wherever
( sIts a Wisited.
• Jean had no idea country homes were so
"huge". No people bumping into you on
the street, but we seem to know everyone.
When Jean's visit was over she went
back to her suburban home in Toronto.
Maybe we as country people don't
appreciate our quiet way of life, with its
dark, silent nights. Or our isolation from
the rest of the world end the nrivilnpn of
