No grant so playground
program cancelled
A number of weeks ago the Dublin and
District Athletic Association applied for
support under the Summer Canada Pro-
gram for money to finance the Summer
Fun Program as was held during the
summer holidays for the past number of
years. The proposal was rejected and
therefore, there will be no Summer Fun
Program, unless other means of support can
be acquired.
• In the past there was one playground
leader and two helpers who were hired by
the Athletic Association and paid out of the
Summer Canada Program Funds. Last
,fear approximately 50 youngsters took part
in.the-activities and eagerly looked forward
to each new day.
This was an extremely valuable program
in Dublin as there is no library or
swimming pool as ih larger centers. What
would be idle, restless days for the young
people became productive, fun -filled hours
with old and new friends. Any people who
would be willing to give freely of their time
for four weeks in the summer or be willing
to help out in any way, may contact Herb
Brown of the Dublin and District Athletic
Association.

Perth waits for grant
Perth County Council
hopes to have an answer in
several weeks on its request
for a $19,000 budget for a
county -wide library courier
service.
Community services com-
mittee chairman Reeve Amos
Gerber said verbal contact
with the Ministry of Citizen-
ship and Culture indicates it
will be several weeks before
there will be any news on the
requested library grant.
In the meantime. council
would still like to have a study
done on library services in the
county. The question who
pays to have a person conduct
the study remains.
At its May 12 session,
county council approved the
Dublin
store
expands
hiring of a student to do a
library services survey on the
conditions that the $19,000
grant is received and a
portion of this grant may be
used to hire a student under
the Involvement in Municipal
Administration (IMA) pro-
gram.
The only hitch is the May
31 application deadline for
the IM'A program. With a lot
of "ifs" in the scenario, if the
grant is not received by May
31 the county will not go
ahead with the IMA program.
"If we don't get the grant
by May 31. we'll drop the
IMA program and possibly
hire a student under another
grant," said Reeve Gerber.
Elma Township Reeve
Glynn Coghlin said there are
a number of other employ-
ment grants the county could
make application to have a
student conduct the library
Congratulations to the
G.G. Goettler Fine Furniture
store on the recent expansion
of its store in Dublin. The
larger floor area has .enabled
Mr. Goettler to display the
array of furniture to give
their customers the utmost
choice in quality and quant-
ity. For the next two months
they will remain open on
Sundays from 1:00 to 5:00
p.m. for your viewing plea-
sure.
The Dublin and District
Athletic Association Bingo
jackpot is now at 5350. on 51
calls. This past week's win-
ner was Mrs. Jeart Brown
who received the 5100. con-
solation prize. Tho e, who
had found the Cigarette
smoke too strong in the past, '
will be very pleased to hear
that the Athletic Association
have purchased and installed
two new smoke eaters in the
hall and they really do a
fantastic job of freeing the air
of smoke and other odors. Do
come out and see for yourself
while playing a night of bingo
every Friday evening jn the

services survey.
The question of exactly
what is to be surveyed was
also questioned by Listowel
Reeve Elsie Karges.
"1 think the information is
avaflable....if administration
made a few phone calls." said
Reeve Karges referring to
administration contacting
libraries for the number of
users and where they come
from.
Ellice Township Reeve
Fred Knechtel said he wanted
to know if the people using
library services in Perth
County are in the majority or
minority. Just knowing the
number of library users
wouldn't be sufficient, Reeve
Knechtel suggested.
"I'm not opposed to start-
ing a service if enough people
want it," also commented
Downie Township Reeve Cal-
vin Innes.
