For over six months the young son of
Mr. Robert Torry of Durham carried in
his foot a piece of glass. It was noticed
that a small lump in the sole wasn't
going away, so the lad was put under
chloroform and the discovery soon made
that under the skin, but completely
healed over, was a ragged piece of glass,
about an inch long end hall an inch
wide. Some time last fall he stepped
on some glass, but, as he supposed, got
it all out. That the foot never festered,
nor hindered him from work nor play,
bespeaks a rugged, clean constitution.

winter," writes hire. Groes, of Wake-
field, Oat. "My appetite was variable,
I was weak and unlit for work, I but-
fered a good deal from nervous prostra-

digestion was generally out of order.
By springtime I had lost flesh, color and
had a bad cough. The Doctor didn't
help me very much, so I aeoided to try
Ferrozone. It did me ever so much good
in one week. I gained strength, looked
and felt a lot batter. When I used six
boxes of Ferrozone I weighed myself and
found a gain of fifteen pounds. Ferroz-
one rebuilt my constitutiou, and made
me a new woman. I ooneider Ferrozone

A case of some practical Interest to
farmers has developed in the township
of Greenock. At the last session of the
Ontario Legislature an act was passed
making it necessary for dealers in im-
plements etc. to sue for over due ac-
counts for implements in the division
court nearest the home of the person
sued. J. Chupe, of Newmarket, doing
business under the name of theExceleior
Fire Extinguisher Co., sold two dozen
of his extinguishers to J. W. Young, of
Greenock, for $48, and had the following
clause inserted in the contract to pay:
"and I hereby wave right to the benefit
of the Aot." Chupe later sued Young
for the payment in the court at New-
market. Young made application to
have this disallowed and the Master has
granted the application, saying that the
clause inserted in the contract was
merely an "ingenious device" to evade
the provisions of the statute and was
therefore not binding.

The statement is made by the New
York Journal of Commence that some
2,000 clerks have recently been dis-
charged from the large department
stores owing to the slackening of trade
arising from the unseasonable weather,
the high costs of living, and the slump
in the stook market which has made the
wealthier classes feel poorer than they
really are. Wages among those who
are retained have been reduced in many
cases.

Judge Elliott has handed down his de-
cision in the matter of the Standard
Bank versus eleven farmers of the town-
ship of Ekfrid for payment of notes of
$120 each, and which the farmers refused
to pay, alleging misrepresentation. The
notes, it will be remembeeed, were ob-
tained by the Farmers' Supply Co., a
1
concern that offered to supply its mem-
bers with goods cheaper than it was
possible to buy them locally. After se-
curing the notes, the Farmers' Supply
Company turned them over to the Stan-
dard Bank as collateral for money loaned
the Supply Co. When the notee be-
came due a number of the farmers paid
them, but eleven of them refused to do
so, hence the snit. Judge Elliott gave
judgment non -suiting all €the cases on
technicals. The matter occasioned wide-
spread interest on account of the num-
ber of farmers interested, and the deois-
ion meet( with the approval of the farm-
ing community.
Recent reports of the wesrtern crops
are good. The average growth in Man-
itoba is said to be 10 days latebut rapidly
catching up, while in Alberta andSaskat-
ohewan it is ahead of last year. The
decrease in wheat acreage of Manitoba
is 10 per cent., but there is a large in-
crease in oats and barley. In Alberta
and Saskatchewan the increase is put at
30 per tient. An estimate of this year's
Western wheat crop is 120,000 000 bush-
els. Hay in all Provinces will likely be
a short crop.
It has been frequently suggested, and
the suggestion is a good one, for every
farmer to place hie name and the name
of his farm on his road gate. Not only
would persons driving to a place more
easily find it, but it would add much
more pleasure to people driving from
place to place. This last result would
have special effect with regard to well
kept and pretty houses. An observing
person will seldom pass a beautiful farm
without desiring to know wile is its en-
terprising owner.
