The Physiotherapy Department has
benefitted greatly from the recent ex-
pansion of the Seaforth Community
Hospital. Physiotherapy has experienc-
ed a growth in popularity over the
years, and that has become evident at
the-Seaforth hippital. The Physiotherapy
Department is now almost triple its
original size,. and has moved from its
cramped quarters in the basement to
much more modern facilities on the
main floor.
At present patients are referred to the
physiotherapist through a medical
referral.
Carol Bowker is Seaforth's Director of
Physiotherapy. A graduate of the
University of Toronto, and.a resident of
Clinton srbce 1966, Mrs. Bowker has
worked at the Seaforth Community
Hospital as sole charge physiotherapist
since 1979. Prior to that she worked in
Goderich.
Mrs. Bowker regularly updates and
upgrades her skills by attending
workshops and courses in London and
Toronto. In addition to serving the
needs of hospital patients, Mrs. Bowker
quite often acts as resource person for
staff and the community in areas of
prevention and education regarding
chronic strain. sports and other acute
injuries.
Working with Mrs, Bowker in the
Physiotherapy Department as Physio
Assistants are Mary Margaret Nash and
Carol Hunt. The two job share a full
time position, and are also involved in
chronic care and the Activiation Group.
In the future the Physiotherapy
Department hopes to man an Occupa-
tional Therapy Department that was
built adjacent to Physiotherapy...

The. Seaforth Physiotherapy Depart-
ment is responsible for treating in-
patients and out-patients for musculo-
skeletal problems and neurological and
respiratory disease's.
The current emphasis in therapy is
toward part education prevention and
"hands on" treatment, with less em-
phasis on the use of modalities such as
electrical eq uipment, although the
Seaforth department has everything that
a modern, city department would have.
Use is still made of heat, ice, ultra-
sound, interferential current therapy,
electrical stimulation etc., when the
therapist feels it is indicated.
