SEAFORTH
Emergency nurse
has many duties
Although Darlene Hetherington's posi-
tion as Head Nurse of the Emergency,
Operating Room and CSR is only tem-
porary, it is a demanding one, since her
duties include: being the patient's ad-
vocate in the operating room, attending
and presenting patients, and coor-
dinating orthopedic clinics, internist
clines and paediatric clinics.
A graduate of the Hamilton Civic
Hospital in 1973, Mrs. Hetherington was
employed at the SIU there for one year,
before working in the operating room of
the Calgary General Hospital for three
years, then moving on to Seaforth.
Mrs. Hetherington became Head
Nurse of Seaforth's emergency depart-
ment in June of 1989 to replace Joan
Chesney, who took on the temporary
role of Occupancy Coordinator at that
time in order to coordinate the move to
new facilities and the renovated area.
Both her position and Mrs. Hether-
ington's were temporary pending com-
pletion of the addition and the hospital
renovation.
In addition to her other duties, Mrs.
Hetherington is also head of the in- ,
travenous therapy team, and teaches
Cardio Pulmonary Rescusitation (CPR)
skills to staff and the public.
The Seaforth Community Hospital
emergency staff includes Jane
McNaughton and Mary Coyne.
Housekeeping

The linen arrives at the Seaforth
Community Hospital by truck each
Monday, Wednesday and Friday of the
week, and there are usually three carts.
Two go up to the patient area, and one
cart does Rooms 1 to 3. and the
obstetrics area while the other does
Rooms 5 to the Recovery Room. These
carts come in with the linen already
counted for 90 per cent capacity. Linen
on the third cart is for the children's
ward, nursery, x-ray, physiotherapy, kit-
chen or any other area that requires it.
All the Operating Room linen is on this
cart, and is ordered by the OR staff
itself.
