Housekeeping one of basic hospital functions
Housekeeping is one of the basic func-
tions essential to the operation of any
hospital, and the Seaforth Community
Hospital is no exception. Housekeeping
is a function that has grown steadily in
complexity and importance over the
years.
It is the responsibility of the
housekeeping staff to maintain an en-
vironment that is clean and safe for
both the patient and the employee. in
the Seaforth hospital specifically, this
staff is responsible for cleaning about
48,000 square feet with a budget of
$150,000. The Seaforth Community
Hospital is cleaned seven days a week.
To do the necessary work, the
housekeeping staff keeps four full time
and four part time employees. During
the day, from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m., there
are usually three housekeeping staff on
duty. From 3 p.m. until 11 p.m. there
are two. Two staff are on duty Satur-
days and Sundays.
On days that walls are, washed or
floors are stripped and rewaxed, extra
help is brought in.
LAUNDRY/LINEN

get its laundry done by the London
Hospital Linen Service (LHI S).
Cost for that service then was 28
cents per pound, and today has nearly
doubled, to 91 cents per kilogram, or 43
cents per pound. Total cost for, this
linen/laundry service is approximately
$35,000 per year,
