Novice hockey handed first loss of season
While outside Saturday the weather was
dumping snow upon Seaforth residents, the
Seaforth Novice hockey team was inside
the Mitchell arena having the puck
dumped into their net more times than
they could reply. When the game was over
Mitchell had handed the Seaforth team a
6-4 loss, and the team's first league loss of
the season.
In the first period it was Scott Van
Dooren scoring unassisted on a breakaway.
Less than a minute later Joe Brodhagen
replied for Mitchell with Shawn Mabb and
Nick Larsen,assisting. Five minutes later
the two teams ran a replay of the first two
goals and the first period ended knotted at
two.
Van Dooren completed his hat trick for
the lone marker of the middle frame to
put Seaforth up 3-2, but during intermission
the wheels fell off. Mitchell pounced on the
locals for tour straight goals in the, third
frame, and a 6-3 lead, Scott Henderson
breathed a little life into the'Seaforth boys
with just over two minutes remaining,
when he scored an unassisted goal. The
last two minutes werefast and furious but
neither A.J. Moses in Mitchell's net, nor
Seaforth's Steven Phillips, were willing to
give up any more goals, and the game
ended 6-4. This was a penalty free contest.
On Sunday Walkerton came to town for
an exhibition .game and despite another hat
trick by Scott Van Dooren, .and • numerous
good scoring opportunities, the boys came
out on the short end of a 4-3 score.
When it was 2-2 Seaforth missed a cou-
ple of breakaways and good goaltending
kept the score even.
Peewee '®CC'®s
Injuries and illness cannot stop the
tremendous skill of the well rounded
Seaforth Pee Wee "CC" team this year.
The weekend tournament in Harriston was
just a test for the Pee Wee "CC" boys.
Going into the first game on Saturday
against Mt. Forest the team only had eight
players to dress and two goaltenders. Boyd
Devereaux broke the game open for
Seaforth by netting the first goal. The
game proved to be an even battle
throughout with the score being tied at the
end of the game 3-3. Tournament rules bad
overtime as a three minute period with
three players against three. Mike Weber
proved to be a dynamo, scoring the winn-
ing goal - his third. goal of the game.
Seaforth won 4-3.
In game two on Sunday Seaforth faced
off against Durham in what proved to be
a nail-biting battle between two strong
teams. Durham came out over confident

held Seaforth in for the first five minutes
of the game. The score was tied 1-1 on a
goal by Mike Devereaux, at the end of the
first period and it held through two periods
more of breath taking hockey. Boyd
Devereaux clinched this overtime for
Seaforth by netting a perfect pass from
defenseman Wayne Schoonerwoerd.
The final game pitted Seaforth against a
fresh Drayton team, who hadn't played
that day. Jamie McNichol tipped in
Seafotth's first goal early in the first
period. Mike Moylan scored the second
goal for Seaforth catching the Drayton
goaltender flat-footed.
At the end of the second period Drayton
had taken the lead 3-2. The break between
the second and third periods gave the boys
the chance to get their wind. They came
out flying. Jamie McNichol tipped in his

second goal of the game, tying the score
3-3.
With 1 1/2 minutes left, Drayton figured
to take the game into overtime dumping
the puck every opportunity. Seatorth had
enough of 'overtime and Coach Bill Weber
loaded his offense and Boyd Devereaux
blew the puck past Drayton's goalie. Even
though Drayton pulled their goalie, they
couldn't take the victory away from the
Seaforth boys.
Coach Bill Weber used quick line
changes to keep the boys fresh, which pro-
ved successful throughout the grueling
tournament. Out -standing goaltending and
defense was a major factor in all these
victories. Every player contributed equal-
ly as a good team should. At this time
game sheets were not available, therefore
whoever got assists were not always men-
tioned even the deserving credit.
The Seaforth Pee Wee "CC" are
