It was 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, October
. 11, right after opening exercises. The bus
rolled in ready to pick up Grades 4G/J and
4V. Everybody had a bag lunch and some
had something to do.
As both grades got on the bus excite-
• ment crept up. For the morning ride up to
Goderich Mrs. Griffith and Mrs. van den
Akker were on patrol. Meanwhile Mrs.
Johnston drove up in her car. After a long
ride to Goderich we finally reached the
Huron County Museum. Our tour guide
Jackie said we were going to watch a
movie called "The First Winter". Then she
split us in two. Grade 4V went an the tour
first while Grade 4G/J watched .the movie.
It was very good. It was also sad. After
the movie we got to go to a crokinole ex-
hibit. Jackie said it was just a temporary
exhibit. Then while Mrs. Van den Akker's
class watched the movie Jackie gave us a
tour around the museum. We ,saw inany
intresting things. Among them were:
Animals, an old fashioned ear, a steam
••.engine, a log cabin, a war room. and lots
writes of
of old fashioned street shops.
After all that we got on the bus again
and went to Harbour Park to eat lunch
and have a small playtime: Then we got
on the bus and went to Apple Park. Apple
Park is just outside of Goderich: Mr.
Laithwaite, the owner, told vs stories that
were behind some statues. Then he told us
thathis grandfather bad .made them as a
hobby. He told us we could walk around
with our teachers. So we walked around.
Our favourite statues were: The polar
bears, the tiger and cubs, the muleand
the drunk man, and the two oxen, and the
two men fighting.
Then we went into his store. He told .us
about the products he sold. Among them
were: Apple butter, apple sauce, and ap-
ple cider. Then he told us about all the
kinds of apples he sold. He said he sold
Northern Spy, Red Delicious, 'Golden
Delicious, McIntosh, Lobo, Idared, Empire,
Cortland and more.
Next he gave us a wagon ride through
the orchard. He stopped the wagon, and -we
met some of his pickers. Then he told us

how to pick the apples without bruising
them "bum to the sun". He started the
wagon again and•we drove down to the
pear trees, but around the pear trees there
were also some apple trees. We asked
what kind they were. He said one was a
'Winter 'Banana apple tree and the other
one was a King apple tree. Then he drove
us back to the bus.
We said thank -you & got on the bus. As
we were on our way back to school we
talked about the Museum and Apple Park.
After another long ride we finally got to
school at 3 p.m. We were all tired but we
ell had a good trip. •
