MEN'S BROOMBALL GRADS 2 - ROYALS 0 Robert 'Wydeven stood at the blueline and scored off a pass from Tony Vandenheuvel. A new recruit for the Grads is Wayne Ramford, a Junior who has mov- ed up. He proved he too can score with a backhand swing that put the ball into the net. The Royals had numerous chances but nothing showed up on the scoreboard. KNIGHTS 5 RED RUSTLERS 2 Rustlers took the lead when Steve Faulds lifted the ball into the net, off a great pass by Earl Flynn, The captain, Ralph Nivins, blasted the ball from the corner and l-ectri.cRy .price Ontario Hydro's customers can expect the price of electricity to increase an average of 5.9 per cent starting January 1, 1990, Chairman • and President Robert Franklin has said. "Customers' use of electricity continues to grow at an unprecedented rate, and the increase is needed to cover the cost of new generating and transmission facilities being brought into service next year," Franklin said. "The new rate is also needed to meet environmental and regulatory •re- quirements, cary out energy efficiency pro- grams, and pay -the fee to the :provincial government for its guarantee of Hydro's debt," he said. This increase, •which is fp 'line with the current inflation rate, will help moderate price increases in the next few years as more new facilities are brought into 'ser- vice to meet Ontario's growing demand for electricity," said Mr. Franklin. The increase in the price of electricity delivered to the province's 317 municipal utilities (including two distributing com- panies) will range from 4.7 to 9.1 per cent. Utilities take the rates charged by Ontario Hydro and incorporate their local costs to determine the final rate to their customers. Electricity bills to Ontario householders served by the municipal utilities now average $61 per month. Customers current- ly paying this amount will pay approx- imately '$3 to $4 more per month . as a result of the Ontario Hydro increase. Almost 2.3 million residential customers are served by the municiapl utilities. Rates for industrial customers served directly by Ontario Hydro will increase 2.4 scored 'with t Vlercttra'=and Terry Powell assisting. The' ;nights then went on a ram- page. Steve Eckert got a hat trick, with Lawrence Vink beside "him and Larry Baer and Mark Louwagie scored the other goals, `WINTHROP 1 - DUMPERS 2 Fred McClure scored the lone goal for Winthrop with a fabulous corner shot that blew past the goalie's glove hand. Dale Kennedy tied the game up off a nice pass by Frank Verberne. A scramble in front of the net led to the second Dumper goal - this one by 13111 Dale. PARR LINE 3 REGIER RAIDERS 1 Parr Line's Roy Fisher could do nothing wrong as he put the ball into the net twice, with help from Paul Gibbings and Ed Salverda. Adrian Salverda also got a goal. Sean Melady scored for the Raiders off a pass from Ray Hinz. In MEN'S BROOMBALL Thursday 8 p.m. Knights vs Easy Riders; 8:50 p.m. Winthrop vs Grads; 9:40 p.m. Parr Line vs Red Rustlers; 10:30 p.m. Raiders vs Dumpers and Royals Sit Out. increase .5,9 % to 6.9 per cent. Customers in rural areas of the province will see an average in- crease of 5.3 'per cent. Actual price increases vary from customer to customer depending on elec- tricity consumption patterns, transmission delivery costs and charges for specific facilities needed to serve different customer groups. "The average increase is higher than the' rate we proposed earlier this year and higher than the rate recommended by the Ontario Energy Board (OEB), but it's lower than •some recommendations made to the Board including the 7.5 per cent sug- gested by the Municipal Electric Associa- tion," said Mr, Franklin. The MEA represents the municipal utilities. •Since the OEB -review, additional costs have been identified for 1990 More revenue is required to restore and maintain generating station performance and to meet increased regulatory and environmen- tal requirements. As well, an increase in funds is required to cover Hydro's pension plan costs. Only once before, in the 15 years that the Ontario Energy Board has been reviewing electricity rates, has Hydro's final increasesbeen higher than the original. proposal and higher than the Board's recommendation. Mr. Franklin said revenue of $6.75 billion will be needed next year. This is $536 million more than the forecast revenue for 1989. Increased electricity sales are ex- pected to contribute $160 million of the re- quired increase, leaving the remainder to be recovered through the rate increase.
