Maplewood residents ,pursuing indoor hobbies
This month at Maplewood, the residents
have been welcoming the, autumn season in
a variety of ways.
At the beginning of the month,
Thanksgiving dinner, featuring turkey and
duck and pumpkin pie, was a delicious
way to celebrate the harvest. Thank you to
Ed Andrews, who said grace for the
Thanksgiving dinner. To complement the
meal, the dining room was brightly
decorated in fall colors. Other decorations
for the fall included a colorful painting of
Snoopy wearing a Pilgrim's Hat and
harvesting pumpkins and corn. Thank you
to .Rate Papple and Brian Love for pain-
ting the scene. Also, Mrs. Hoelscher's
Grade 6 class from Seaforth Public School
added • a "harvest table" to the first floor
lounge.
Then, on October 11, the residents took
a day trip through part of Huron county.
The bus left Maplewood at 1:30 and wound
its way through Varna and Bannockburn
country, through Hotmesville and Ben -
miller and through the most enchanting
area - the Maitland Block near Auburn.
The bus did make a stop at the Walton Inn
where fresh tarts and muffins were
waiting. After browsing through the craft
shop there it was time to go home for sup-
per. Thank you to Anne Downey and Marj
Maloney and her sister Marg for helping.
This colder weather has mvited residents
to pursue indoor hobbies. The star quilt
has been completed, thanks to Minna Scott
and Matti McGregor and the hours they
spent quilting. Also thanks to volunteers,
Anne Downey and Eva McCartney for
their help.
Euchre has again become one of the best
ways to spend a couple of hours in the
afternoon or evening. And, the large print
books and listening books brought to
Maplewood by Trudy Broome from the
Huron County Public Library have become
a popular pastime. Knitting needles and
crochet hooks are busy again. This month,
the residents resumed playing Lions TV
Bingo every Wednesday evening. Thank
you to Anne Downey and Marj Maloney
who help with bingo.
On Fridays, Maplewood's bingo has a
large number of followers. The winners of
regular bingo were Ethel Coleman, Ed An-
drews, Walter Somerville, Edna Lloyd, Ed
Johns, Pete Tremeer, Grace Titford, May
Habkirk and Elsie Shaddick. The jackpot
winners were Elsie Shaddick, Walter
Somerville and Pete Tremeer.
The ministers who conducted the worship
services on Wednesday this month were
Pastor Sadler from Bethel Bible Church,
Rev. Snihur from Londesboro United
Church and Rev. Gilson from St. Thomas'
Anglican Church. Mr. and Mrs. Lobb from
Clinton assisted Pastor Sadler. The church
services are most appreciated as some
residents are unable to attend their own
church on Sundays.
Thursdays are musical entertainment
days. Thank you to Carol Carter and draw will be December 3 at the Christmas

A LITTLE TOO MUCH LIKE WINTER - was the weather last week in Seaforth. A
few local residents cleared out some brush at the north end of town, and used
the opportunity to keep warm in the bargain. Elliott photo.
