HENSALL UNITED CHURCH
The Hensall United Church was
beautifully decorated for Thanksgiving with
fruit, vegetables and flowers. Mark Consitt
greeted the worshippers and the Junior
choir sang "For these blessings" by
Natalie Sleeth. Rev. Wright was assisted
by Fred the puppet for the children's
story. Sharon Wurm read the Epistle and
Gospel lesson. Cecil Pepper and Murray
McGregor were the ushers.
TheSenior choir's anthem was "Oh
praise the Lord with heart and voice" by
Hayden, The old testament lesson was
from Joel 2:21-29, "A Thanksgiving
challenge" was the title of the sermon.
The official board meets Thursday Oc-
tober 12 at 7:15 pm for executive, 7:30 pm
for committees and 8 pm for full board.
Bible study meets Sunday mornings at 9:15
to 10:30 am.

Heal, a member of the church,
HOCKEY SKATE-A-THON
This coming Saturday is the day of the
Minor Hockey Skate-A-Thon in Hensall. If
you sponsored skaters they will be around
soon to collect.
Another good cause is the read-a-thon
sponsored by the Hensall Branch Library
to raise funds for the Public Access
Catalogue. The children will be reading
books for the month of October.
Week of The Child in Hensall is ap-
proaching fast. Many exciting events are
being planned for the youngsters including
a Movie night, a dress -up parade and a
Haunted House.
This Sunday is the second annual Toy
Tractor Show and Sale at the Arena. This
Kinsman sponsored event was a great suc-
cess last year so come out and see what
it's all about.
FRIENDSHIP CIRCLE
The Friendship Circle met Monday even-
ing of last week with Laura Wright
chairperson.
The group will be visiting Queensway
October 16 and the 23 for Bingo.
Hazel Corbett opened the devotional with
a poem "Autumn". Psalm 100 was the
basis for "In All Things Thanks".
Laura Wright presented slides on CUSO's
work in India where Marilyn Wright is a
Physical Therapist.
Hostesses were Janine Corbett and Kay
Mock. The next meeting will be November
6 at 1:30.
SHUFFLEBOARD RESULTS
High 6 game winners for October 3 Shuf-
fling were Dave Woodward 478 and George
Dowson 405.
Five game high scores were racked up
by Pearl McKnight 308, Eileen Dowson 301,
Helen Anderson 286 and John Pepper 284,
LADIES GROUP
The afternoon Ladies Group of Hensall
United Church met October 5.
Elva Forrest opened with a Thanksgiv-
ing prayer. The devotional by Ellen R. was
entitled "Today's Blessings". Luxuries can-
not fill an empty heart. We should be
grateful all through the year, not only at
Thanksgiving. Prayer and the reading of
the minutes was followed by a hymn.
Dorothy Mickle played piano.. The
treasurer's report, was followed by a
humorous reading "Old Age".
For the study Audrey Christie told •of the
Venture in Mission project through the'
Mission and Service Fund of the United
Church helping to start small congrega-
tions and build ministries in Nova Scotia
and Alberta.

The Walton Area Sports Committee held
its monthly meeting on Wednesday even-
ing, October 4, in the library. Judy.. Em-
mrich read the minutes in the absence of
secretary Joyce Marcuccio,
In the business it was stressed that the
committee is in need of volunteers.
Members are hoping some in the com-
munity will come forward and attend the
annual meeting in December.
Now that the ball season is completed,
all -uniforms of each team are to be hand-
ecr in to the coaches or a committee
member,

The monthly noon luncheon will resume
the third Wednesday in October. It is be-
ing planned to start off the season with a
turkey meal.
The Walton Women's Institute meeting is
scheduled for that evening October 18.
Guest speaker Margaret Jarvis will be in
for the Family and Consumer Affairs
meeting. Anyone is welcome to Come to
any of the meetings at 8:15 p.m.

Thanksgiving Weekend, all visitors will be

Sympathy from the community goes out
to the Patti McGrath family in Dublin on
the passing of their sister and aunt Mary
(McGrath) Smith on Tuesday of last week,
in her 70th year.
Miss Cheryl McGrath has returned to

A mass in Thanksgiving was offered on
Friday, October 6 at 11 am at St. Colum -
ban Catholic Church with Father J. Hardy
celebrant. Children and staff from St. Col-
umban School along with parents and
parishioners attended. The readings and
petitions were done by the children and the
offertory gifts were also brought up, by the
children.
The sanctuary around the altar• was
decorated for Thanksgiving with corn,
fruits, vegetables and flowers. Gifts of
canned goods and dry foods were brought
up by the children and placed in front of
the altar and will be given to the poor.
