On Friday, teams from Atwood, Mit- chell and •Seaforth competed in round robin play and at -the •end of three games all teams 'were tied forcing a playoff. The Atwood entry of Vera Linder (skip) Lillian Smith (vice) and Terry 'Ward (lead) won that playoff. They will now advance to the two-day round robin com- petition being held at Brampton Lawn Bovalfng Club on September 6 and 7. On Saturday, two teams from Mitchell played off for the district Ladies Provin- cial Novice championship. The 'winning team was that of Lorraine Elliott (skip) Helen Chessell (vice) and Lola Rohfritseh (lead). They will now be competing at the next Ontario finals to 'be held in Peterborough on August 26 and 27. Perhaps 'next year some of the Seaforth bowlers will be competitors in these games - for members bowling five years on Seciforth greens or less. In charge of 'running the games each day was the district chairman Betty Tilley. Thanks also to greens keeper 'Neil Bell for -the good greens. Four ladies pairs bowled at Clinton last Thursday but were not able to play their third game due to light rain. In first place were Jean Lunn and Rika Van -Bakel with 2w plus 30; fourth prize went to Carol Carter and Edna Bell with 2w plus 25 and sixth to Eileen Adamson and Dorothy `McCluskie. In other out of town tournaments Art and Mary Finlayson were three game winners in the Walter Newcombe family tournament at Clinton last Wednesday. Also Neil and Edna Bell were high two game winners. In Lucknow a week ago Sunday Sandy Pepper and Eileen Adamson placed third while in Brussels on Saturday the rink of Oliver Pryce, Olive Papple and Dorothy McCluskie were two game winners. Ex- eter cancelled their tournament scheduled for July 23 at 1:20 p.m., possibly due to low entries In the extreme beat. Just a reminder to members and associates to bring an item for the grocery boxes to be made up for the an- niversary tournament. The ladies are hosting a tournament on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. and entries are welcome. This will feature a potluck dinner. On Friday evening, July 28, will be club bowling for the Sills Trophy with lunch after. All bowlers are asked to have their names in by 7 p.m. Sharp so bowling can commence at 7:30 p.m. On Monday, July 31 the ladies will be bowl- ing at the Seaforth Greens for the McLean Trophy, In future bowling news your reporter hopes to print a few excerpts from the past minute books 'which might be of in- terest to some of the readers. At Saugeen she set a new tourna- ment record when she shot a 78, but was still • .tied with another player. She won the .tourney in a playoff, But the Ladies Amateur was "really an exciting tournament," for Ms. Doig, who was impressed by the competition. "108 of the best golfers in Ontario were there, and not one had a handicap of over 12," she sajd. Against this kind of opposition Ms. Doig was 20 shots off the pace, "but the point is I did much better than I thought I would. It's a tough course." she said, adding that the cut at 169 for two rounds was the lowest it has been. "Any other year the. cut would have been 175." "1 wasn't disappointed in my game, but when I heard I'.d missed the cut by one I started to think If I'd only made that putt, or hadn't done that...' But it was a good ex- perience for me," she said, adding, "I'll be there next year." The tournament was won by Debbie Lee from the Hamilton Golf Club in Ancaster, who has won the tournament for two straight years now. Ms. Doig says Ms. Lee has golfed in Seaforth and won the junior tournament, beating out the local boys. Atom 'tains competitive in Exeter tourney The two .St. Columban Atom teams travelled to Exeter on Saturday, July 22 to participate in Exeter's annual . atom tournament The Atom Is first game was against Durham. The Atom Is played well but lost by a 4-2 score. Mark Van Dooren scored both goals for the Atom Is. The loss put the Atorn Is into the "B" division of the tournament. The Atom Is second game of the day was against Arva who they beat 6-1. Mark Van Dooren scored four goals in this game while Jamie Dick and Jeff Van Loon scored singles. This win put the Atom ' Is into the "B" finals against D4,Iaware. This was perhaps the best game played by the Atom Is all day, and the result was , a thrilling 3-2 victory for St. Colum- 't ban. Mark Van Dooren tallied twice while i brother Scott Van Dooren scored once. Goaltender Pat Coyne played well in all three games for the Atom Is. ATOM lis The St. Columban Atom IIs first game of the tournament was against Arva and the result =was a 7-0 ,win. This Lwin put them into -the "A" division of the tourna- ment where Durham was their:second .op- ponent. Just like the Atom Is, Durham beat St. Columban Atom Is by two goals - this time by the score of .2.0. It was a heartbreaking loss for the Atom IIs as they played well in this game but just couldn't score. The loss ended the tournament for the Atom IIs. The St. Columban Minor Soccer Association is hosting its fourth annual Mosquito Soccer Tournament on Satur- day, July 29 in St. Columban and Dublin. The tournament starts at 9 a.m.. on both fields with a 10 a.m. game being the last game scheduled for Dublin. The tourna- ment runs all day at St. Columban.
