OUTSTANDING IN HIS FIELD - Michael Lane of RR 5 Seaforth s
one of the very few farmers in the area who still grow red wheat.
and expects it will be ready to harvest in about a week - depending
on the weather. Mr. Lane, who has farmed for all his life, sowed
140 acres of the Monopl Red Wheat this year (less than in other
years) and sato he expects a good yield, Rea wheat generally re-
quires more care and upkeep than soft wheat, but pays more in
diVidends. Mr. Lane said head disease is a common problem with
red wheat, but noted this year the problem has been very minimal.
"After a bit you get used to it. You know what to look for," he said
