Bad Fire t Clinton.
The most dieastr ns fire in the history
of Clinton was eta ted Monday after-
noon about 2 o'oloc in the works of the
Clinton Thresher mpany. A terrific
wind was blowing a d it is thought the
fire 'originated by • spark from ;the
Thresher Company's smokestack falling
on the roof of the Ir me factory. For a
'time it looked as 1 the whole town
would be destroyed, a fully twentyilve
buildings were on fir at once; and with
the wind blowing a • hard, the Bremen
were at the flame's mercy. Assistance
was asked for from tratford and Blyth
and it is to their eff Is that mnoh of
the credit is due in s opping the fire's
progress, The build nge burned in ad-
dition to the threthin works were two
frame buildings near the Wesley Metho-
dist Morph, the R tenbury hotel, Dr
Evans' house and s bles and another
stable. Other buil hags were on fire,
but were put out. The total financial
loss.will be over $7 ,000 and the insur-
ance less than half 1 is amount.
