rHE WALTON INN will soon be opening for business, and new owners Karl and Annie
MacNaughton have only to put some finishing touches on the bed and breakfast opera-
tion, such as installing this light and ceiling fan, before an open house on May 21. Cor-

Walton Inn "sile11 y -t cozy
The revitalized Walton Inn will soon be
opening its doors for business, •
As reported in a December issue of The
Expositor the new owners of the inn, Karl
and Annie MacNaughton, have been restor-
ing the uuilding and getting their new
business ready for business since they mov-
ed in,on November 29, 1988. On Sunday, May
21 they will host an open house, and on Mon-
day, May 22 they will officially open for
business,
The MacNaughtons offer a four room bed
and breakfast, coffee shop and craft store.
The couple has put a lot of time into making
the inn comfortable, but nothing
extravagant.
"We call it simple, yet cozy," says Mr.
MacNaughton. "She's a ma and pa
operation."
Four guest rooms have been made
upstairs, each with a queen sized bed and
one with a queen and a double. Also upstairs
is a common room with a "coffee nook," two
bathrooms, and a washer and dryer that are
available to guests.
Downstairs is the coffee shop which will
seat 35, the kitchen, living space for the
McNaughtons, and the craft shop. The craft
shop will feature crafts of all sorts by local
-craftspeople, who are encouraged to contact
the MacNaughtons.
Finishing touches have to be put on before
the Walton Inn opens for business, but a
great deal of work has gone into the building
already. New plumbing had to be installed,
a new well drilled, ceilings lowered,
carpeting and painting done throughout,
washrooms installed, rooms constructed
and kitchen equipment installed.
Work on the exterior of the building and
the yard will soon be underway, but may not
be completed when the business opens its
doors.
At least one person will be employed at
the inn on a full-time basis, and additional
part time help may be sought,
Mr, and Mrs. MacNaughton came to
Walton from Lucan, but are originally
Kirkton residents. So they know this area,
they know small towns, and find themselves
at home in Walton.
"It's a very friendly little town.
Backwoodsy and quiet," comments Mr.
MacNaughton.
In the formerly vacant Walton Inn the
MacNaughtons saw an opportunity they
were waiting for.
"We had wanted to get into something for
ourselves for a while," explains Mr.
McNaughton. "She worked in a factory for

"Too many of these old buildings are be-
ing torn down," he adds.
"This one looked like it needed something.
A little TLC," says. Mrs. MacNaughton of
the building. "People are too quick to tear
down, heritage.",
Of the building's heritage Mr. and'Mrs.
MacNaughton know it was built in 1862 and
was originally a frame building. It was
bricked up in the late 1800s, was last licens-
ed in 1913, and was for years known as the
Sage Hotel after a previous owner.
The MacNaughtons are looking forward to
a busy summer this year, and already have
bookings for wedding guests. They have had
a good response from the organizers of the
nearby Blyth Festival, and have heard in-
quiries from Stratford Festival organizers,
"It should be a busy summer between
festivals and travellers," says Mrs.
MacNaughton,
At the open house next Sunday the Mac-
Naughtons will offer tea, coffee, "goodies"
and the chance for the public to see what
they have done with their inn,
