The Huron Expositor, 1982-12-08, Page 14Brussels Transport Ltd. iveftock Trucking And Shipping Service Local and Long Distance PHONE 8876122 GEORGE JUTZI,BRUSSELS A14 ® THE: HURON EXPOSITOR, DECEMBER 8, 1982 ssels Post Short Shots ' by Evelyn Kennedy Heigh. Ho! Hustleup! Here comes Santa Claus. Saint Nick will arrive in Brussels this Saturday at t:00 p.m. escorted by a parade of floats. decdrated cars, snowmobiles, bicycles, horses with riders astride. clowns. The parade will proceed along a route from the C.I.L. plant,to the fire hall, (where Santa and helpers will dig into his bag of goodies for his young friends), to the music of three bands. Brussels Legion Pipe Band, Seaforth Trumpet Band and Harriston Brass Band. Patty and Canadettes of Wingham will also be here. No, this parade cannot be compared with Metro -Toronto Santa Claus parade, or the Rose Bowl or Grey Cup parade. but it is Our Parade. it was planned for. organized and will be participated in. by people of this community for the youngsters, and the young in heart, to watch and enjoy. it took time and work on the part of the sponsors to arrange. The success of the parade now depends on the co-opera- tion of others in the community having entries in the parade. May there be good weather. many entires in each class (there are generous prizes), and the parade lined with spectators. There will be free skating at the arena after the parade and a chance for folks to shop in the stores }that are all well -stocked with displays of good things for Christmas. Bring the kiddies to BrysseLs on Saturday and see the Santa Claus parade. Harnett Nolan of Payson, Wis.. is seeking information about her great aunt, Hannah Victoria Francis, daughter of Dr. Abraham and Harriett Francis. A copy off a concert in Brussels. dated 1866, found in her effects. seems to indicate that she lived in Brussels at that time. She was born in Masa (Deleware) Ont. about 10th of June 1848. In 1871 -Census she was still living in Deleware, 29 years 6Id, and was a music teacher. Mrs. Nolan would like to know when she came to Brussels. She may have lived on property purchased by her father. As she was apparently an artist as well as a music teacher, Mrs. Nolan thinks there might be some of her work in homes in this area. and would like to know if there is. Harriett Francis went to live in Michigan in the 1920s and later to Wilson N.Y. to live with Mrs. Nolan's grandmother. If anyone has any information in regard to the above. contact Mrs. Ruth Galbraith of Gorrie who will relay it to Mrs. Noland **a 'pee,* as Maybe. just maybe. there is,hope that the Toronto Maple Leafs will climb out of the NHL hockey cellar. Their Saturday night performance was an exhibition of what they are capable off. It was a show of determina- tion, power and all-out team effort with a 4-1 win over the New York Islanders., Their fans in the stands were very vocal in their exuberant excitement. aaaa**aa Senator Edward Kennedy has chosen family in preference to the hope of presidency in the 1984 presidential nominations. An early favourite in the public opinion polls, he has. nevertheless. announced that he will not run for "a personal reason." His three children do not want him to run. After the assassination of his two brothers President John Kennedy and Senator Robert Kennedy. they fear that he too might suffer the same fate. It is heart-warming to learn that such a politically-minded.man would give up, at this time. his desire to obtain a high position. out of consideration for his family. *aaaaaaaa Another warning has come about hearing loss danger in listening to high volume music. This time it is about headphones on small portable radios. With miniature radios and tape players with models that list a scale of one to ten they should not be turned above four if you listen to them for several hours. and should never be turned up to eight or above. in tests it has been proved that these units have the potential for permanent Toss of hearing. Constant exposure to loud music is dangerous. We see .many joggers around making an effort to improve. or maintain, their physical well-being. But have you ever seen a jogging turkey? There is one in Dusman. Wis., Wilbur. a pet turkey. jogs right behind his owner. His flat footed waddle gives a thump -thump -thump accompaniment to their jogging.
