Christmas is more than parties
Correspondent
JOAN CRONiN
345-2772
As each day goes by we get
closer to Christmas. The
snow has vanished 'for the
time being. but it will return
no doubt. Mother Nature
either forgot to turn off her
shower or is having a , real
crying spree with all this rain.
Poor old Santa Claus will have
to trade his reindeer and
sleigh in for Noah's Ark or the
Love Boat. if all this rain
doesn't ,soon stop
Each weekend is booked
with Christmas parties and
festive 'happenings, such as
Sante Claus Parades and
pre -Christmas dinners. The'
red nose is more common and
Rudolph is no where to be
seen and many a head feels as
big as Santa's tummy. Homes
are beautifully decorated in-
side and out with lights and
decorations. The traditional
Christmas tree is decked out
in its tipest bobbles and
trinkets only for a robust
youngster to knock over while
sneaking a candy cane from
the top of the tree.
Moms and dads are plan-
ning their guest list with care
not to miss any of their
friends or family. and mom
visualizes the turkey and
stuffing and Christmas pud-
ding on the table, a feast for a
king.
Last minute shopping is
being done by many. while
for others, shopping has just
begun.
But Christmas is more than
parties and gifts. it is the'
celebration of the birth of the
Christ child. We all know
what a marvellous event it is
to have a new baby in our own
, homes. It is a beginning of a
new life and with the birth of
the Christ Child. it was truly a
new beginningfor us all. As it
• is Advent. a time of prepara-
tion for the coming birth of
the Holy Child. all peoples in
'all countries throughout the
world prepare in, their own
special way for the birth of the
Saviour. Rich and poor. black
and white join together as a
unified body to mark this
event. War torn countries set
aside their hatred and vio-
lence on Christmas dayy. to
reflect and worship. What 'a
shame this calm and peace
could not last forever. Peace
of mind is as vital as peace
among men.. and. in our
present economic times, for
many this is becoming more
and more difficult. A new
courage and strength from
within must come forward
and as a result. we often find
a more strongly united fam-
ily, 'chore willing to share
fifes burdens' and jovs.
If your tree has little or no
presents around it. you need
not dispair. for the gifts of
"'love. peace, joy and friend-
ship cannot be bought or sold.
but are earned through the
years and are forever.
The Dublin and District
Athletic Association Bingo is
still being played every Fri-
day evening at 8:00 p.m. in
the Dublin Community Cen-
tre. The consolation winner of
$100.00 last si•eek was won by
Mrs. Lola Rohfritch of Mit-
chell. This week the jackpot
will be 5500.00 on 54 calls. It
sure would be nice to have
that in ones Christmas stock-
ing.
This past week the St.
Patrick's Parish Adult Choir
'egtertained at the Smith's
Nursing Home in Mitchell
and on Tuesday, December 7
they will entertain again and
this time it will be at the Ritz
Lutheran Villa. It is really a'
treat to bring a bit of
Christmas joy to the residents
of these homes and to let.
them know that they are not
forgotten.

moving to your new home in
Dublin.
We were all very happy for
you when yoti made the big
move; as we all•know• how you
dreaded the winters with icy
and blocked roads and. hydro
cut-offs to contend with. Now
you can sit in front of your big
window and watch the rest of
„ us sneak out between blows
for supplies.
You will have a lot of
memories after spending the
past 45 years on your farm.
i
But admidst the jovs and
sorrows you have contributed
a lot to our community with
your teaching career and the
active life you have led in our
parish. Also. your generosity
on Halloween was noticed
this year with decrease in
traffic. We all hope you have
Netter health and lots of joy
and contentment in your new
home. Don't forget to take a
drive back to the 4th ,when
you are free. Please accept
this gift as a token from your
neighbours and remember
Hibbert Township is still a
pleasant place to live in.
Signed on t)ehalf of your
neighbours
Mrs. Melady was delighted
with this not only lovely but
vey appropriate gift as she is
very active in the field off
crafts and in creating new and
interesting items, and this
light as one would say just
help shed a little more light
on the subject. In response to
this special event Mrs.
Melady gave this reply:
Dear Neighbours and
Friends:
It is indeed a,memorable
occasion to see all the folks
from the 4th and Sth cgn. of
Hibbert assembled here this
evening. A most hearty wel-
co•me to all of you. First glen l
want to offer a 'note' of
appreciation to everyone who
tbok part in organizing the
evening.
This past June 1982. mark-
ed the 45th anniversary of the
'Meladv's on Con. 4. the last
twenty-seven years were
Without Joe. but my lonely
hours were filled with the
kind thoughtful visits from
neighbours or their phone
calls just to see if all was well.
My good neighbours and
friends were always there to
help me whatever the need or
occasion. .
Thoughts of selling the
farm were filled with emo-
tional moments. but 1 came to
the realization that the time
had come. This decision was
made easier knowing that
Jack and'Marg's son, Pat. a
well-known member of St.
Columban Parish would be
taking great care of the
homestead. upon which we
first settled. tiod had it in His
plans to take care of me in His
own way. while hospitalized 1
decided to purchase my sister
Helen's house in Dublin. It
seemed a natural move as
Dublin has. always been my
second home.
And you know that you are
ic,
II welcome at any time ,to
me and visit -me. Friend-
ship is in the heart. so we are
still very near to each other.
So neighbours. please pro-
mise me a visit soon. I'll look
forward to seeing you at my
new home in Dublin. Before
closing thanks to Ted and Nell
for offering their home for
this occasion and to those who
organized this get together.
Lastly thanks to all for coming
and for the lovely lamp. I shall
always remember and trea-
sure the memories I have of
my neighbours and friends in
Hibbert. Mrs. Melady wished
them all a very Merry Christ-
mas and lunch was enjoyed'
by all.
Mrs. Melady was very
touched by the kindness and
consideration she was
shown by her neighbours and
finds her new home and
neighbours very special. h is
always difficult to, change
one's location but it is made
quite pleasant when one is
surrounded by friends.
The residents of Dublin
and area wish to extend their
sympathy to the family and
friends of the late Mr. Clem
Krauskopf who passed away
this past week.
