Belgrave UCW holds
Remembrance service
Correspondent
MRS. L. STONEHOUSE
887-9847
The afternoon unit of the
U.C,W. met at the home of
Mrs. Olive Bolt on Monday,
November 8.
Mrs. Olive Bolt opened the
worship service with these
words; "He is not dead. who
is remembered." November
11 of every year is'a time to
remember the men and
women who died so that
Canada could remain free.
Each year it becomes more
and more difficult to remem-
ber. for each year takes us
further away from the ex.
periences of global war.
Canadians have,forgotten the
• heartache of good bye to
husbands. sons, daughters
and neighbours, who went
off to war. Canadians have
forgotten the huge cost of
war and the rationink of
food and otherr commodities;
many are too young to have
endured the hardships.
Prayer for the nation by
Dorothy 'Higgins closed the
worship service.
Mrs. Anderson gave the
study on Prophets and Po-
litics. in the Old Testament,
she read Samuel objected to
kingship. Samuel claimed
that kingship would bring;
taxation. the draft and forced
labour. The result will be
enrichment of the king's
friends and poverty for the
general public. Samuel's
vision of life under a king
reflected what actually happ-
ened. Those who resisted the
monarchy were known as
prophets. They believed the
monarchy would supplant
Yaweh as king and lead to
disparity between the power-
ful and the powerless. To the
prophets the monarchy com-
bined spiritual corruption
and social oppression.
• Mrs. Anderson closed the
meeting with prayer. Re
freshments were served by
the hostess and a social hour
enjoyed.

Isn't it strange how people have
developed a language within a language? We
can say exactly what we mean without saying
exactly what we mean. All we need is a few
well-worn phrases.
For example, 1 don't want to be a gossip
monger, butyouknow so and so. Well, all 1
can say is when the cat's away the mice will
play. If you get the picture.
Oh, that's no news. lit's as plain as the nose
on your face. There's been hanky panky
going on there for a long time.
You could have knocked me over with a
feather when I first got wind of it. though.
Yea, you just never know about people, do
ya?
A conversation may not say much. but it
need never lag as long as we have cliches to
help us.
Hi! How are you? How you doing?
Just great. And you?
Can't complain. Wouldn't do any good if 1
did.

Isn't it strange how people have
developed a language within a language? We
can say exactly what we mean without saying
exactly what we mean. All we need is a few
well-worn phrases.
For example, 1 don't want to be a gossip
monger, butyouknow so and so. Well, all 1
can say is when the cat's away the mice will
play. If you get the picture.
Oh, that's no news. lit's as plain as the nose
on your face. There's been hanky panky
going on there for a long time.
You could have knocked me over with a
feather when I first got wind of it. though.
Yea, you just never know about people, do
ya?
A conversation may not say much. but it
need never lag as long as we have cliches to
help us.
Hi! How are you? How you doing?
Just great. And you?
Can't complain. Wouldn't do any good if 1
did.
