The meeting was held in the Brussels, Morris and Grev community centre. November 15. with etre re- presentatives from Brussels. Blyth, Brucefield, Huron Park, Exeter, Goderich. Hensall. Seaforth, Wingham and Crediton attending. Representatives from King -Seagrave 1982. menu- - facturers of fire fighting equipment. attended the meeting. The spokes- man said King-Scagrave 1982 will continue as in the past. the Goderich fire depart- ment had previously ap- proached each fire depart- ment with a proposal of eliminating fire phones and changing to a new county- wide dispatch system, tied in with the Huron County system. All police depart- ments in the county receive their calls through a dispatch in Goderich, Wingham Fire Chief Dave Carruthers strongly opposed the suggestion saying install- ations costs would be too great and priorities could become confused. He was satisfied with each com- munity using their own fire phones. Seaforth Fire Chief Harry Hak felt the proposal should be further investigated. He felt most communities would benefit using a 24-hour, centralized •dispatch system. He explained Seaforth al- ready has a 24-hour. answering service. at the Seaforth Community Hosp. ital. "It's the best system in the county". Estimated cost of the Seaforth sers'ice ip S600 per year. Alt calls to 11 are recorded. The pins were presented by Ont- ario Lieutanant Governor John Black Aird. When he joined the Brussels brigade in 1952, Mr. McWhirter said he was paid 51.00 per hour to practice time and 51.50 per hour fire fighting time. "It wasn't very much, but we sure liked fighting fires." He said he has never regretted joining the department. When asked of good and bad experiences. Mr. Mc- Whirter said the department "has saved a lot of buildings. The worst fire was approx- imately 24 years ago, when three small boys died in a house fire. I found the boys, upstairs near a window and wrapped them in blankets. It's the worst thing I've ever see n. The worship part was opened with a reading by Mrs. Wey on The Year of the Senior Citizen. In Christ Neither Male or Female, A Litany of Script- ure and Confession was given, with each member reading about a woman in the Bible. Mrs. Lavern Godkin led in prayer. The topic was pre - seated by Mrs. Merton Hackwell, she spoke on Senior Citizens. Mrs. Wev read an article on Stereotype Types of the elderly. Business was conducted by Mrs. Campbell Wey, president. The slate of officers for the coming year was read by Mrs, Murray Dennis. Copper contest money was turned in with Mrs. Wey having the win- ning side. A group Family Night is planned for November 23.
