The (Photo by Svela) fe Correspondent JOAN CRONIN 345-2772 The weekend was over again and another week was beginning, as I sat and watched the big white fluffy snowflakes fall• and then be whisked about by a passing breeze, it brought back many a stormy memory from last year. Small children hustled about the house looking for snowsuits, boots, toques and mittens to go outdoors to play in the marvelous snow. Meanwhile, . the rest of us visualize cars that will not start, or being stuck in a snow bank or worse yet, having a snow storm on a weekend and not getting to a local dance. The thoughts of shovelling snow often adds a wrinkle to one's brow. For moms and grandmas it is a more relaxing time when evenings are set aside for quilting, knitting or doing crafts of various kinds. To many winter is the time to go south to a warmer climate like the birds but, to others, it is a few months of living a little slower pace and taking time to spend the evening playing cards or driving the week folk off to a hockey game. Or Sunday afternoon's spent as a family tobogganing or skating and coming home to hot choco- late and popcorn around a crackling fireplace, who could ask for more? During the winter months one gets an opportunity again to invite old friends and relatives over for the evening as during the summer we all lose touch is ti with one another a:: a result of summer holidays and summers spent at the cottage. Winter is definitely here so bundle up, and make the best of it and have fun in the snow, eno.aaw On November 5,6 and 7, the 1st Dublin Brownie Pack had their first camping ex- perience at Camp Kirkton. It was a full, fun weekend from arrival at 7 p.m. Friday to departure at 1 p.m. on Sunday.' As it was a Fairytale, theme, the Elves were Sleep- ing Beauties, the Fairies were Snow Whites, Gnomes were Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and Pixies were Cinderellas. Each group made appro- priate puppets and helped make a puppet theatre, then entertained everyone with their particular fairytale. As well as their Holiday and Puppeteer Badges, the girls worked on the Athlete Badge Each group was also respon- sible for their share of 4the duties of setting up for meals and cleaning up. The girls particularly enjoyed making their own special camp friend, "Hermte". On Saturday, after eating hot buttered' popcorn, many songs were sung around the "campfire" and the girls settled for the night. Sunday morning at "Brownies Own" the girls shared their Thank You prayers. The blustery cold gave way to sunshine and everyone hiked to the recreation centre and the Kirkton pond. enjoying the sights and sounds of nature. Special thanks to District Commissioner Gail Scigner for coming and helping out, as well as Bonnin Cronin and Cathy Elliott, who did such an excellent job on the food, The Brownies meet every Thursday night at 'St. Pat- rick's School, Dublin, under the leadership of Joan Day. nard- Brown Owl, Jane Mac Leod- Tawny Owl, and Linda Saunders- Snowy Owl.
