JOHN JEWITT
In 1980 I decided to seek
election to the Huron County
Board of Education. Having
served on Hullett township
council for 13 years, four
years of which 1 was reeve, 1
became aware of the criticism
many people. including my-
self. had of the education.
system. 1 felt that 1 could
contribute some of the com-
mon sense approach which 1
feel is present in municipal
government in our area.
Being the father of five
children, four of whom 'were
receiving their education at
that time, one in public school
one . in high school, one at.
college and one at university.
I felt, 1 was qualified as a
concerned parent.
As a result of placing my
name to stand for office 1
received an acclamation to
the position of trustee repre-
senting Seaforth, McKillop
and Hullett. During, the last
two years I have attempted to
fulfill this positiorf in a.
competent manner, Also I
have expressed my views on
the necessity of restraint in
our spen 'ing. 1 have stated
that any cuts in our education
program must not be directed
at our basic subjects such as
maths', sciences, English. In
discussions with ratepayers
in our area I feel many people
share these same concerns.
I would suggest that I have
the confidence of t e other
trustees and the adm stra-
tion. This has enabled me to
solve many problems the
ratepayers have had, in an

LEO KKROONEN of Raglan
Street. Dublin is running for
Hibbert council.
1 have -un for this office for
the past two .terms but
unfortunately it was without
success.
I have farmed in Hibbert
Township for the past 30
° years. In 1960 we started a
farm supply retail under the
title of Lim Bent Farm Supply
and now in 1982 we have`
expanded to a new facility on
Highway 8. east of Dublin.
I am married with three
grown children and consider
that I now have the time to
devote to an office of this
nature.
For 20 years 1 have repre-
sented Hibbert at the Ontario
Pork Producers Marketing
Board, one term as commit-
tee man on the Ontario Milk
Marketing Board, six years
on the Perth County Safety
• Council. Township Director
for the past eight years of the
Federation of Agriculture and
prior to that the county
director of O.F.U. We belong
to St. Patrick's Church of
Dublin.
If elected. 1 would like to
see expenditures kept at their
present level and if the
depressed economy contin-
ues, to introduce roll backs. 1
would like to see less red tape
and have more communica-
tion between ratepayers and
council.
James Paratchek
Running' for his first term
as a trustee for the Village of
Dublin is James Paratchek.
Residing on Mill Street in
Dubli with his wife, Donna
and thirtwochildren.Bever-
ley and Gregory. Jim has
owned his own maintenance
business in the area for the
past five years. He has been
very active in'the community
in the past ,as a Charter
Member of the Dublin Lions
Club and an advisor to the
Dublin Leo Club.
As a Canadian citizen, Jim
says he wishes to serve his
community of Dublin and the
people therein. He is very
proud to be a candidate for
this position and if elected
will find this a new and
challenging experience.
TOM SCHOONDER-
WOERD is running for the
position of councillor in Hib-
bert for the first time. Spend-
ing restraint is the main issue
in his campaign. He feels that
the new council will have to
be careful with the way it
spends ratepayers' tax dol-
lars.
It is his opinion that it is
time for new faces and ideas
to be brought to council.
although he acknowledges
the fine work done by pre-
vious council members.
Thor does not believe in
making election promises,
but is willing to look at
individual issues as they arise
in council. He would like to
assure the residents of Hib-
bert that he will be vocal on
issues concerning tatepay-
crs.
efficient way.
1 thank you for the oppor-
tunity to serve you for the last
two years and if elected will
work to the best of my ability.
FRANKLIN M. FALCONER .
I chose to run for the Huron
County Board of Education
because 1 have served one
term on this board. l also have
11 years of experience as a
councillor in Tuckersmith. I "
still like to be with people and
attend meetings.
All issues .are important
with the Huron Countv Board
of Education, Salaries, teach-
ers, bus services, harmony
with all the employees and
the mill rate.
1 have been a farmer in
Tuckersmith Township for 34
years along with my wife,

ters, (Janet, Joyce. June.

Gouinlock Street in town. I
am a member of Sea Birt fire
Dept. and am owner-operaator
of Seaforth 'Contract Clean-
ing, a small janitorial busi-
ness. This is my third attempt
at council.
, Being a young family man,
1 feel) am able to represent
the average family in Sea -
forth. 1 would like to see the
unique character of our main
street preserved as well as
being an excellent retirement
community, 1 would like to
see Seafortlf in a position to
attract industry.
However, the main pur-
pose in the immediate future
is to try to continue the
existing services and pro-
grams without having to
increase taxes. 'We all are
affected by the economy. 1
feel that the street recon-
struction program is impor-
tant, as we all benefit from it.
1 would like 'to see Seaforth
prosper fpr my son's genera-
tion, just as someone did for
ours.
Unfortunately, time does
not permit me to canvass door
to door as others are doing. 1
will be circulating flyers
through the mail. Please read
them before destroying them.
If elected 1 will do my best to
look after our mutual intet't
ests in our community. 1
humbly ask for your vote on

CHRIS LEE
My name is Chris Lee and t
am a candidate for the posi-
tion of deputy reeve of Grey
Township in our municipal
elections this Monday. No-
vember 8. While this is a
particularly hectic season of
the year 1 encourage you to
both participate in the elec-
toral process and to support
me in my bid for deputy -
reeve. 1 hope you can find
time for both.
I reside near Walton with
my wife and two children. We
farm 300 acres which sup-
ports a dairy and a farm
equipment supply and cus•
tom work business,
As a result of being ' ex-
posed to a variety of farm
situations across a large area
I have become increasingly
concerned with' the lack of
effective leadership exhibited
in rural communities which
seems to be propelling rather
than arresting the gradual
deterioration of the tradition-
ally cooperative social nature
of rural life.
At the same time excessive
governmental meddling and
interference in the market
place has resulted in the
stagnation of the entrepre-
neurial drives which have
brought us to our present
state of development.
While most may feel that
social and economic issues
are too generalized for con-
sideration in municipal poli-
tics, I beg to differ. For those
who feel these issues are
beyond the influence of mun-
icipal decisions 1 suggest
reconsideration.
1 personally feel that the
blame for most of our prob-
lems lies much closer to home
than most of us would like to
admit. and 1 believe that
municipal council can effec-
tively stimulate and enhance
the environment in which
many of these challenges may
be met and overcome.
1 ask for your support in
helping create such a council.
I would be glad to answer
any enquiries if you wish to
call 887•9378 or 887-6735.

SAM PLETCH
I feel there should be more
communications between the
council and the ratepayers.
It's my belief that the public
is not aware of the wide range
of problems and decisions the
council handles.
In my opinion. the main
issue facing not only the
council but also the ratepay•
ers this year is the economy.
There will have to be adjust •
ments and probably cut
backs. How do you determine
what is to be done? This is
where 1 truly believe the
communication between
council and ratepayers is
vitally necessary.
I am a farmer in Morris
township and have served on
council before. My wife
Thelma and 1 have raised six
children. It's a good place to
live and we hope to see our
grandchildren grow up here
also.

FUNERAL DIRECTOR
ROSS RIBEY
"HOW DO 1 GIVE COMFORT
TO THE
TERMINALLY ILL?"
It is usually best to maintain the same closeness
you have shared in the past your contacts with the
person should be of the same type as they were in the
past --a phone call, short visit over coffee, a personal
note --whichever was your manner of contact before
you heard of the illness
If making a personal call seems too difficult,
perhaps a short note indicating "Word has come to
me that you are ilt Please know that you are in my
thoughts and prayers "
Silence can often be interpreted to mean
indifference to one who is ill A simple note pf concern
and love makes an opening for a personal call at a
time convenient to the sick person That personal
visit will surely prove a comfort 10 both parties
And finally, that personal visit should be made as
ordinarily as possible Don't change your personality
or behaviour—rather "Be yourself •' Bring news or
items of interest into the conversation, all in a way to
show you care
