grandmother with an uncom-
promising love for the'roron-
to Maple Leafs. died at Grace
Hospital, Toronto on Tues-
day, October 19.
In her 107th year, Marg-
aret Ballantyne was born on a
farm near Seaforth. She
operated a general store with
her husband, James in Brus-
sels and continued operation
of the store, 25 years after his
death. Ten years past the
retirement age of 65, she

In her fourth, year as an
Avon representative, Ruth
Pipe of Brussels enjoyed the
excitement of Montreal dur-
ing a three day trip for 522 top
Sales Achievers from all
across Canada.
It was a first contest win
and a first air trip to Montreal
from London for Mrs. Pipe
who said all expenses were
paid for the three: day event
held September 20. In addi-
tion to the trip, she was
presented with a gold ring.

decided to pursue a second
career, assuming duties of
librarian in Brussels. She
moved to Toronto in 1976 and
for the past five years had
lived at Grace Hospital. -
An intense hockey fan,
Mrs. Ballantyne would watch
the Wednesday and Saturday
games on television. said her
granddaughter Julie
Romoser. Her passion for the
Leafs became so well known
that Darryl Sittler, one-time
Leaf captain, visited her
when she' was in hospital. In
addition to being an avid Leaf

Pipe attended gait dinners,
special tours and 'was recog-
nized during a spectacular
victory banquet hosted by
William E. Griffin, Jr., Presi-
dent of Avon Canada. Special
d guest star Jack Jones pro-
vided entertainment.
Mrs. Pipe said she won -the
prize for receiving the highest
increase in sales. The pro-
gram was held in eight
campaigns. over the period of
approximately six months.
She exclaimed, "We were
treated like queens and it is
something 1'11 never forget."

years ago, Mrs. Ballantyne

Ballantyne and Jaclyn Hall.
She was predeceased by her

A tea was held at the
Brussels United Church, Sun-
day afternoon, October 10 for
the Rev. Dr. and Mrs. R.
Gordon Hazelwood in honour
of their 50th wedding anni-
versary. Mrs. Hazlewood was
the former Helen Lane. They
were married at' Apsley Unit-
ed Church. They have a
fancily of a son, Lane of
Hamilton and a daughter
Lynda Harrower of Burling-
ton and five grandchildren
who were present to help
them celebrate their 50 years.
Many friends and neighbours
attended along with people
from their former charges in
Benmiller, Walton and
Mount Forest, also friends
from Goderich, Listowel and
surrounding area,
Guests were ushered to the

tea tables by Mrs. Jack
Bryans and Mrs. Viola Kirk-
by. Pouring tea were Mrs.
Wilbur Turnbull and Mrs.
Isobel Adams followed by
Mrs. Herb Traviss and Mrs.
Campbell Wey. One, of the
groups of the United Church
prepared and served'ret'resh-
ntents.
The couple was also hon-
oured when their family
arranged an open house at
Binkley United Church, Ham-
ilton where the Rev. Dr. R.G.
Hazlewood was minister for
17 years. He was at the
Walton and Moncrief charge
from 1942-1951.
The family also took their
parents out to dinner at the
Cavalier Restaurant, Hamil-
ton to celebrate this happy
event. They are now retired
and living in Brussels. •
