Their record now stands at one win, two ° ties and three losses. Last Friday night the Cen- tenaires dropped a 6.4 deci- sion to the Mitchell Hawks before a large home town crowd. The game was played in Clinton. On Sunday after- noon in Hensall the Tavistock Braves out forrevenge, hand- ed them a 6-3 setback while on Monday night in Hensall they battled the Thedford Browns to a 2-2 tie. HAWKS 6CENTENAI ES4 In the Mitchell contest he° Centenaires fell behind 4.1 in the first period as they were, outshot 11-4. Brad Campbell, the Centenaires starting goal - tender, played quite well despite being beaten four times as he 'was given little help from his defencemen. They had trouble'clearing the puck in their•own .end as a result of good forechecking by the Hawks. Scoring for Mitchell in the period. were Steve Hudson, Jeff Pauli, Ralph Sl,affen and 'Dune Ferguson. Dave Mur- ray yvit)1 his first off three tallied for the Centenaires. The second period saw the Centenaires pull to within two goals as Murray fired his second from linemates John Hicknell and Mark McLlwain at 3:33. The Centenaires • seemed to be carrying' the play, but were unable to beat Hawk's goalie Dave Fischer. At 12:46 Mitchell regained its three goal lead as John Sykes. foiled Campbell with an un- assisted marker, The Cen- tenaires outshot the Hawks 11-7 in the period, rhe third frame started about the same as the pre- vious ,one with the Cente- naires again controlling the play. At the 54 second mark with the Centenajres on the power play Murray com- pleted his hat, trick by con- 'verting passes from McLlwaln and Bicknell to make the score 5-3, Keith McClure 'replaced Campbell at the start of the third period in the Seaforth net and gave up Mitchell's final goal by Daryl Stacey at 6130 as he was caught out of • The Sh 1111) III will cis+'1se_ Frilly, Nov. 5 Anyone wishing to make a purchase for Christmas Call Rod at 527-0985 or Barbara at 527-1086 See you lin the Spring.l Carolanne HOOSE FROM OUR HUGE NEW STOCK OF WOMENS' & MISSES Over 250 BRAND NEW SWEATERS in all the latest designs, knits and weights BY BARBARA SUE AND KITTEN All Sizes BUDGET PRICED AT 21.00 to 35.°° NEW FALL SWEATERS Ruffle cardigans, ski style crewes, novel knits, classic pullovers, fisher• man knits, Shetland weaves, loyely Angoras, sulk knits in new Fall shades of Loden, Silver, Plum, Mocha, Saphire, Black, White & Garnet FOLLOW THE CROWD AND'\WEAR THE NEW , Stretch HOPSACK WEAVE DRESS SLACKS by "Third Dimension" This stylish pleat front Iaeerod leg dress pant comes In Rust. Witchell picked' up 49 minute's in penalties com- pared to 41 for the Cente- naires. BRAVES 6'CENTENAIRES 3 The Tavistock Braves once again took advantage of a slow start and numerous defensive mistakes by the Centenaires as they took a 3.0 lead after the first period and then coasted to a 6-3 victory. The Braves fired 16 shots at Seaforth gaolie Dan McClure while the Centenaires tested Braves goalie Maury Saunder 7 times. Pete Van Drunen got the Centenaires on the score- board at 2:02 of the second frame as he scored from Dave McLlwain and Paul Smale. Tavistock regained its 3 goal lead at the midway mark of the period but, the Cente- naires came back with a power play. goal two minutes later as Van Drunen notched his second from McLlwain and Peter Bennett. Shots on goal were even in the period at 10 apiece. The third stanza again was all Tavistock as they tested McClure 13 -times while the Centenaires only 'managed six on Saunder,.. The Braves upped their lead to 5-2 at the tntrteen minute mark only to have the Centenaires bounce back with a shorthanded tally off the stick of Jamie McClinchey at 16:40. • The Braves completed the scoring with only 2 seconds remaining in. the . game as they counted into an empty net after the Centenaires had pulled McClure in favor of a sixth attacker. Only 22 min- utes in penalties were called in the game with the Cetite naires receiving sixteen of them. SIEAFORTH 2 TJi1EDFORD 2 The Thedford Browns scored from a goal mouth scramble with only 54 seconds remaining in the game to give them a 2-2 deadlock with the Cente- naires. There was no scoring in the first periodas both goaftend- ers came up 'with several big saves especially , Keith McClure in the Seaforth net. He had the more difficult drives to stop. The Browns outshot the Centenaires-10-8 in the period. In the second frame the Centenaires picked up a pen- alty at the 11:18 mark and before it had expired the Browns took a 1-0 lead as Ron Vanos beat McClure aftet taking advantage of a Cen- tenaire •defensive mistake. The period saw a lot of hard hitting and good goalkeeping as the Centenaires seemed to be carrying the play. With just over two minutes remaining. in the period and the Centenaires applying the pressure, defenceman Bob Nash let go a wicked drive from the blueline that was tipped in by Dave McLlwain. Captain Dave Erb also drew an assist. Shots on goal in the period we're 13.11 in favor of Thed- ford. The third stanza saw both teams press hard to get the go ' ahead goal but again both gaoltenders came up hot. Then with just over five minutes remaining the Cen- tenaires line of Dive McLlwafn, Dave Erb and Jim Campbell, • buzzing around the Thedford net, scored to take a 2.1 lead. The play started with Campbell doing the work in the corner and corning up with the puck and in turn put it back to defence - man Paul Smale who shot it to Erb at the side of the net. He flipped it behind the goal to McLlwain who came out from behind and slid the puck past the sprawled Thedford goal- ie. At this point it looked as though the Centenaires would hang on for the win but, once again a defensive error in their own end set the stage for the Browns tying marker, The Centenaires outshot their opposition 11-10 in the period. Only 18 minutes in penalties were called in the game with Thedford picking up 14 of them. - The Centenaires now hit the road for three games (Port Stanley, Tavistock, Thedford) before returning to Hensall on the 14th of November to seek revenge agait the Mitchell Hawks, Bruins take 8-5 victory BY DAVE BROOME Irked by predictions of a ' last place finish, the Bruins took out their anger on an unsuspecting Hawk club last Sunday night and the result was an 8-5 victory. The early game triumph by the 'Bears leaves each squad with a one win, one Toss record. It is still very early in the season and the game was less than an artistic success but the Bruins prevailed by virtue of their ability to commit the fewest errors this night out. Joe Dick. Brian Nigh and Dale Kennedy all scored twice for the.winners. Terry Stevenson and Pat Devereaux added singles. Marc Robinette netted the hat trick for the Hawks with singles going to Jerome A,pb- in and Tom Nigh, FLYERS 5 CANADIANS3 Laurie Kruse turned in a standout performance in the Canadian net but his effort wasn't enough as the Flyers skated to a 5-3 middle match triumph. _ The Flyers overcame a 2-1 Canuck lead with some heavy forechecking to capture their first win of the seaaon. Bill O'Shea paced the win- ners with a pair of markers. Steve Smith, Dave Broome and Terry Craig chipped in the other goals. John Roberts, Ron Quipp and Gerry Feeny replied for the Canadians. PENGUINS 7 RANGERS 3 • The Penguins reeled off 6 straight goals during one stretch and that effort mak,. led the birds to whip the Rangers 7.3 during last Sab- baths late, late game. The win was the Penguins second in as many outings while the Rangers have drop- ped both their games. Brian Dale led the Pen- guins scoring with a hat trick. Bob Schenck, Mike Mar- ion. Ken Swan and Cam Holland all had single goals. Howie Breen, Mike Flani- gan and Doug Phillips scored for the Rangers who were missing Ray Devereaux and John Devereaux.
