payers will go to the polls on
Monday, November 8 to elect
a new council for a three year
term. Nominations closed
Monday, October 18 and saw
five nominated for the office
of councillor. Four are to be
elected.

his acclaimed seat. Mr, Krau-
ter said he has given half his
adult fife to the municipality.

years as reeve and, 20 years

sioner. He was elected War.

Returning to the P.U.C.
board as commissioners by
acclamation, are four-year
member of the board, Henry
Exel and six year veteran
Harold Bridge, Mr. Bridge,
who also served as councillor
for one term. is the incoming
president of district six of the
Ontario Municipal fficctrical
Association.
An election will be held to
choose four councillors from
five nominees. Elizabeth
Graber, a resident of Brussels
for 12 years. seeks re-election
following four years as cowl -
chlor. Gordon Workman. a
four year council member and
past president of the Legion is
seeking the seat of councillor.
A cbuncillor for several years
Hank Ten Pas was elected
two years ago following a four
year absence, A veteran of
municipal affairs, Mr. Ten
Pas seeks re-election for a
three year term. Councillor
Stu Parker is the only council
member not returning to
office.
Newcomers to the political
scene include Jerry Wheeler,'
owner of J. R.'s Shake Shoppe
and Douglas Trollope. propri-
etor of Turn berry Upholstery.
A resident of Brussels for
eight years, Mr. Trollope
says an election is healthy for
the community. He feels
everyone should run for mun-
icipal office at least once for
the experience. He said he is
concerned with abandoned
buildings on Turnberry
Street. which should be in•
vestigated before an accident •
occurs.
Mr. Wheeler., born and
raised in Brussels. is past
president of the Optimist
Club and an associate mem-
ber of the Legion. Having an
avid interest in sports, he said
he wants to be involved in the
municipality as an interested
citizen.
Full slate for Grey election
The race is on in Grey
township where nine
candidates are seeking five
council seats. Not seeking
reelection are counci'hors
Charles Thomas and Ben
Terpstra.
The seat of reeve is being
nought by incumbent Leona
Armstrong and Joseph B.
Segue. Deputy -reeve Lyle
Pettapiece is being opposed
by Christopher C. Lee

There ..was only standing room when
approximately 40 Morris township taxpayers
including council members attended a
ratepayers' meeting on Monday evening,
October 14. The meeting was chaired by Jim
Mair, a former member of council.
Reeve of Morris Bill Elston explained his
duties on county' council, He said "a lot of
controversial matters have been discussed."
'Referring to the county manure bylaw, and
the proposed museum transfer from Goder•
ich t' Vanaetra, Mr, Elston said, "we are
heading in the direction where laws are
required for -everything, and that is not the
way ',was brought up."
Although severalmunicipalities had estab-
lished their own manure bylaw, Mr. Elston
said "a lot of townships have adopted the
county proposal. We believe we can control
the county bylaw'," -

the home of Mrs. Clare Veitch
on October 7. The business
meeting was presided over by
the president Mrs. Frank
Workman. The area conven-
tion will be held October
21-22 at Arthur. Several
ladies will attend with Mrs.
Wilfred Strickler as the vot-
ing delegate. h was also
decided to donate 550 to the
Huron Homemakers which
arc canvassing the area now.
Our guest speaker. Mrs.
Nancy F.xet, a chartered
accountant from Brussels was
intrdduced by Mrs. Veitch.
She spoke on how to become
an accountant and what her
work involves. A good discus-
sion followed. She was thank-
ed by Mrs. Donald Perrie who
al! sat down to a smorgasbord
pot luck supper which was
.enjoyed by all.
Following a short business
meeting 6 tables of progres-
sive euchre resulted the fol-

we haven't got clean water, we haven't got

In,addition to an extensive road building
program in the county, Mr. Elston said
attempts are being made to recycle old
asphalt.
Concerning Morris township, .deputy -
reeve, Tom Miller explained that "gravel was
put on the roads as usual and several roads
were built-up," Sidewalks were welcomed by
residents in Walton. He said ditches were
dug and ea �t Qtained, "but we have ditches
every year." Miller said one ditch was
equipped with a pumping station "because
the ground is so low."

Mention was made of snow plowing
tenders, Mr. Miller said salary increases
were granted to grader operators, "up nine
per cent from last year. The road superinten-

nesday.

at Bro. Stan McDonald's in
Hensall. Court Constantine
and Court Constance were
guests. Installation of officers
was held for 1982-83 by
district Bro, Gerrin Ginn and
District Deputy Sister Betty
Hulley. Sister Dorothy
Hearn, Forester of the year
was guest speaker. She gave
a most interesting message
on things to be thankful for.
The meeting closed in the
usual way and a delicious
lunch was served. All enjoyed
a social tine together.
