A18 — THE HURON EXPOSITOR, OCTOBER 13, 1982 Lodge re-elects officers Th nrusseis ah Lodge met a the home of e &'est Noble Grands Club of Mornln Star Rebeh- Verna Thomas with a good Short Sh tS by Evelyn Kennedy It is not the length of life that matters, but how it is lived. That is the thing that counts. It is not "how long" but how "well". 5*55555 Margaret Murray, affectionately known as Ma Murray, died Saturday, September 25 at the age of 95. The long-time publisher of the Bridge River Lillooet News. B.C. was called a "Tough, wise old bird" by a veteran broadcaster. Another said "She brought a gust of fresh air into B.C. politics, took on virtually anybody who was in a powerful situation and became the voice of lively dissent in B.C." During the 1950s and 60s she attacked those she considered guilty of pomposity or abuse of power, 'Without apparent concern for libel laws. It is most unlikely there will ever be another like her in the Canadian newspaper world, 55555555 A musical treat is in store for those of this community who enjoy listening to a male choir. The Crescendo Singers, a thirty voice male choir from St. Thomas, will present a program in Melville Presbyterian Church, Brussels at 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 15th. With, piano and organ accompaniment this excelent choir promises an evening of fine entertainment. Why not be there to hear them? 55555555 In the familyhome in Winnipeg a good deal of time was spent watching the.tropical fish in the rather large aquarium. Their antics fascinated me. There were quite a number of small orange -red ones with black tails; pale pink ones and a pair of very small dark ones with a shimmering green stripe on their back. Larger fish were a green pair (one about to give birth) and a delicate pink pair that were fondly -named "Kissing Fish" for they tend to stay close together, often hiding in the acquarium foliage. One day, while their home was being cleaned the fish were removed to a • smaller receptacle on the floor and left to wait there until fresh water reached the required temperature. We found the Kissing Fish on the floor, dry and seemingly dead. Apparent- ly one had managed to jump out of the temporary container and the other followed. Hopefully they were quickly immersed in the now heated water and somewhat to our amazement revived and were before long as lively as ever. .The other inhabitant was much larger than the other fish. It was black with faint showings of grey, long tail and large fins. particularly the one on his back that seemed to permit the fish to lie still and flat in the water. The mouth was a suction cup with which he frequently clung to the glass. This one is a scavenger fish and kept the tank free of impurities (other than waste dropped by the fish) cleaning off shells, foliage and pebbles on the bottom. Alas, in spite of their attraction there will be no such acquarium in this home. It requires a considerable amount of attention and care as to water temperature and quality. The task of cleaning would be beyond my capabilities. It takes muscle to empty, and refill the tank with the gallons of water, necessary. 55555555 What delightful autumn weather we have had. (Of course it is possible that we may get a nasty taste of winter before this appears in print(. There was plenty to do indoors but one lovely day the pleasure of relaxation and out-of-doors was not to be resisted. Bathed in the warmth of the sun, a book in my hand, my dog at my feet, all was serene. The gentle breeze, sent colourful leaves rustling about; dropped ripe chestnuts with a soft plop. The pungent fragrance of burning leaves wafted by. What could be more beautiful than the Canadian fall with all its array of gloriotis colour? 555555* Do not forget about the Brussels Menno- nite Reduction Drive in support of world-wide relief. This Saturday, October 15, 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. bring your contributions of newspaper, cardboard, tins and glass. *555555 Have you seen the movie "Annie"? That pleasure was rttiue when taken to see it while in Winnipeg. It is a delightful musical filled with song and dance. If you enjoyed the Orphan Annie comic strip'(or not) you will not be able to take your eyes off the screen when you see "Annie." The little girl who plays Annie is remarkable, tough when she has to be. resourceful, sympathetic, adorable. She acts, sings, and dances like a seasoned professional as do the youngsters in the orphanage, where we first see her, and the -staff at the home of wealthy Daddy Warbucks where she becomes his beloved daughter. Warbucks is that fine actor Walter Gelling. Carol Burnett gives an award winning performance as the alcoholic amorus lady in charge of the orphans. It is excellent family entertainment to be much enjoyed by adults and children alike. No regretable violence, no blatant sex. no objectionable language. Do see "Annie" if you have the opportunity. You will never regret it. With us, your busiiess could really go places. See us at Wingham Motel.
