down budget
With municipal• election
polling day November 8 and
qualifying days from October
14 to 18' Hibben Reeve Roy
Swart declared that he would
seek reelection as, Reeve,
Deput, Reeve Don Johns,
Councillors Walter McKenzie
and Ron Christie indicated
they would all seek re-elect-
ion in of Ses yet to be
declared. Councillor John
Kinsman stated he wanted
further time to make his
decision.
With the success in num•
hers of the last election year's
Candidates Night (or Rate -
pavers Meeting) it was de-
cided to hold a similar night
on October 28 at 8 p'.m., and
the Clerk was instructed to
advertise accordingly.

A delegation was ,received
requesting information as,to
whether the new official plan
and by-laws would have any
effect on a previously refused
severance application. Reeve
Roy Swart indicated that it
would not. and the 'delegation
informed council he would
pursue the matter further.
The petition for a repair
and. improvement (if neces-
sary) of the,Aiken Drain was
accepted, Clerk instructed to
inform the Conservation Au-
thority.and place on Novem-
ber budget for appointment
of an engineer,
Grants were made to Mit-
chell and District High School
of $25 for Echoc Magazine,
and a one time 10c per capita
grant (rounded up) of 5140
was made to the Salvation
Army, the present economy
placing a strain on their social

assistance programme, .
Write offs in taxation were
granted for changes of as-
sessmen rom commercial to
residential. cancellation of
business taxes, and "urea"
allowances.
A by-law in the sum of
510.500.00. was passed for
tile drainage debentures,
521,288.49 for roads, which
included the purchase of a
oneway plough for the l0'6
D.160 grader. This gives the
roaddepartment two graders
with one way ploughs and a
third with "V". There were
however ' two spare "V"
ploughs which will fit the two
D160 graders should the
snow become "difficult".
General account $41,935.25
which included municipal
'drain allowances, and return
pt' performance cheques for
the McMillan and Scott Mun•
icipal drains.-

ive Program to provide work
for local people in the form of
painting the hall. Payments
were also approved for the
Bahn and Wier Municipal
Drain and the Rapien Muni-
cipal Drain and release of the
holdback on drains completed
last year.

New name, salary

The Perth County Board of
Education has approved
changing the title of assistant
superintendents and with
that a change. an increase in
salary effective Jan. 1. 1983.
Discussed in committee -of -
the -whole following the
board's regular meeting on
Oct. 5, the title of the two
assistant superintendent s
will change to superinten-
dents of schools with a salary
of 553.096. Presently the
assistant superintendents re-
ceive a salary of 551.345

As a result of assistant
superintendent Paul Sher-
ratt's promotion to directorof
education, the board ap-
proved establishing a com-
mittee to recommend a re-
placement to the board. Mr.
Sherratt will act as chairman
of the committee, with Chair-
man Howard Shantz, vice-
chairman Barbara Herman
and trustees Rev. John An•
derson and Ted Loughrey as
members.
Trustees Barbara Osborne
and Mr. Anderson were ab-
sent from the meeting.
