812 — THE HURON EXPOSITOR, OCTOBER S, 111'82 [ odT,o 'Mm2, cmtd On-beAw@@om Fall and winter is not diet seas by 4Q6ob fp3Brlwemoe It has been proven in the past that people tend to gain weight over the fall and winter months. Now, you could tell me that this is because they wear heavy Clothes, such as sweaters, but that isn't the point. You see, we forget to exercise in the winter, at least we don't exercise as much as we do in the summer. SD St at Summer's great! We can get up early in the morning and go out into the sunshine and jog around a five mile block. T}3e birds sing, the tr"ee a e. swaying. the air is fresh and everything is per- fect. This is not the case in the winter. Jogging in the coun- try means trudging through snow, dodging the snow banks and trying to fight off frostbite. You won't get a very good suntan either. So, if you can't exercise in rch Several S D.H.S. girls were here looking for work which is subsidized by the Ontario gov't. My Persian violet seems to be a thirsty plant. For just a few days we hai+e placed the pot in water with satisfactory tesults.,The hundred or more • mauve flowers with the pro- minent orange -yellow, cent-, fes are back to normal again. When placed in water the roots absorb as much water as necessary. ' KITTEN Darlene Glanville visited the home, also Sherry Ward and 'Tinker', their kitten which is growing. Hike to see children loving and caring for animals. It does something for them to have something living to love. I always loved animals especially • if they show signs of intelligence. 1 used to borrow the neigh- bour's dog. I could never get away in the car without her . As soon as I'd start my car she'd be over to go for a ride. Mr. and Mrs. Don Bode are spending a holiday in Sudbury, their former abode. Derek McClure came with Tabloid The Tabloid Meet is a yearly event at SDHS, held on the Friday of the fair. The students are divided into four main groups. AB. Phconix, Comet, and Taurus, From these groups are form• ed teams of both senior and junior boys and girls. There are about seven to nine players in a team depending on' how many participate. . Usually the games are held out-of-doors. but this year they were held in the halls and the gym because of the wet and mucky weather. The individual teams go around to the different sta• tions and compete against each other at various games. Games included an obstacle course, under -over game S4 1 f nts his mother Mrs. George McClure. Mr. and Mrs. Don Hillis, Ingersoll and Marilyn, Till- sonburg visited their aunt, Mabel Turnbull. Eileen Muegge, Walker- tdn visited Anna Hoegy. CHILDREN Jane Muegge (nee Sills) and Jenna Dinah visited Anna Hoegy. Christine Dev- ereaux with mother Faye visited. It is interesting to see how these children of our staff grow and develop. As I look out of the window 1 see the coloured leaves fluttering softly the ground. They will make a thick covering follow- ed by a warm blanket of snow. Edna Atkinson Toronto and Mrs. Robert Gemmell, Kippen, and daughter Bar- bara, London. They were in Seaforth for Edna Gemmell's funeral. It was good of them to call, 1 knew Edna as Edna Troyer in years agone. They brought me a breath- taking bouquet from the funeral home. Edna Gem- mell's brother Aldimer, was a school -pal of my sister Ella and I. Meet with a bucket of water, the donkey kick with a bean bag. and many others. There was a total of 12 events in all. The teams were given points for the number of times each player finished the pass or play. In some games the team was counted as to how many times they • com• pleted the event as a whole c.g.. Over-under. The one with the highest score also got additional points for win- ning. The Tabloid is a lot of fun and students should make an effort to attend. especially v. lien it is raining. This year's Tabloid was a success and this year's win• nor was Pheonix. •Caroline Willems -Lisa McClure INFORMATION ABOUT FUNERALS *FUNERAL DIRECTOR ROSS RIBEY IS A FUNERAL - NECESSARY? Death is one of the mosic-cofficult losses we can experience—especially the death of a family member or Spouse The visitation and funeral service can be 'tools" that help us accept the fad of death and permanent separation as the real thing It becomes a time of consolation to those who have experienced the loss• -a time foe friends to SHARE their grief The funeral helps us remember the life of the lost one It provides strength for the family and friends and communicates to all those attending that this life is new permanently separated from ours Sometimes those who do not attend the funeral of a loved and close one suffer more afterwards The funeral can become the first stepping stone to the rebuilding of our own lives without the presence of the deceased Call us if you'd like more helpful information and - 'wink lets on the subject of funerals WHITNEY-RIBEY FUNERAL HOME 87 GODERICH STREET, WEST SEAFORTH, ONTARIO, NOK 1W0 527-1390 the winter. then it is a' lot harder to burn off those extra calories. Even the exercise you do get in the winter may not result in weight loss. Take for instance, skiing, Skiing is a great hobby and equally good sport whether it be cross-country or down hill. Getting out in the fresh air can appeal to anyone. How- ever, being out in the cool,. crisp, air may make you tired, • cold and very hungry. This results in having a nice, hot cup of hot chocolate complete with the marshmallows when vou return. Of course hot chocolate just doesn't taste right without some cookies or doughnuts. So much for the exercise, DIET IN FALL? I suppose you could try to diet during the fall and winter months but that often is not too easy either. You see, they throw these holidays on us that require eating. Thanks- giving dinner just wouldn't be right if we could only eat carrot sticks and celery. Can you jmagine giving kids let- tuce salad for Hallowe'en? Kids dressed up as rabbits might accept it. but others might not be thrilled. Can you imagine passing up Christmas dinner because you're on a diet? I'd be giving up my diet awfully quickly, I think. • When a person is bored in the summer, it isn't hard to firth something to do. Since the weather is so unpredict- able in the winter, boredom sets in on a stormy day, One, A has a rough time finding any more to do than. sit, eat, drink and watch television. This is not good for a person on a diet. Baking is something that is a lot nicer to do in the fall and winter than in the summer. No one likes to turn on .theoven on a hot day but when it's cool, anoven could be your best friend. This can be a major problem for dieters though, sincebaking always tastes best hot out of the oven, A hot butter tart is always great with a cup of hot chocolate on a cold day. ' FAVOURITES I find cook books really amusing.. Some time when you are bored, look at one of your mother's cook books. It isn't the recipes that are so funny but the -additions to them. For example, you can' tell which recipes are favour- ites just by the condition of the page. If the Corners are ripped and there are some pen marks here and there indicating changes, a dab of peanut butter here, some flour there and grease stains all over the page. then this is sure to be a well -liked favour- ite, recipe, This actually is irrelevant to the subject though. isn't it? Baking is hard to resist on a cold winter day, Mothers also tend to bring out the soup bones in the winter and make home-made soup. (Another no -no for a person on a diet). The kitchen may smell of many delicious aromas such as spaghetti, soup. stew. 527-1320 makes is incred casseroles, lasagna, bread, pizza and many more favour- ites that don't taste quite as good in the summer. it's tough to diet if your nostrils aren't stuffed up with cold. If you are planning to keep the weight off this winter, 1 wish you the very best of luck.
