basketball team consists off
Faye Carnochan, Jayne De-

Hulley, Joanne Johnston,
Anne Marie Kell, Cath
Kelly, Kathy Larone, Samanif
tha Poisson, and Mary
Thompson. Their coach is
Miss Dawson and the man-
ager is Cathy Vanneste.
Says coach Dawson, "On
Sept. 7 not only did classes
begin but so ,also did prac-
tices." Unfortunately gym
conditions forced the girls
outside for practice.
This year we have six

He ti hopes for high school.
Returning to school this
fall was more or Tess a new
adventure. This year 1 would
be meeting different people,
and doing exciting things. As
"The Day" drew closer there
were a few of the old anxious
nerves, but otherwise all
systems were go.
My first day turned out to
be a success, and all of the
--tall tales about what happens
after the 9 a.m. buzzer goes
were just what I expected --
untrue. In fact, my biggest
worry ended up being able to
cope with semesters and
getting used to four teachers,
off whose faces 1 am to see
day after day, for five
months --that I think I can
handle.
To me, right now, high
school means two things. In
one way, I gain many
opportunities and privileges
I've never had before. Plus
gain a greater sense of
independence.

only the WOSSA 'A' champ-

but also Huron -Perth.
The girls work hard
throughout their season and
would appreciate your .sup-
port for all their home
games, especially, their ex-
hibition tournament' on Sat.
Oct. 30. The tournament
begins at 8:30 a.m. and runs
through until 8:30 p.m.

This team has planned a 10
game league schedule and
are going to five tournaments
in Brantford on Sept, 24/25,
Wingham on Oct, 1/2, Wind•
Boron Oct, 15/16, Saulte Ste.
Marie on Oct. 22/23, and our
own tournament on Oct. 30.
Says player Faye Carno-
chan, "we will win WOSSA
'A' and Huron.Perth, it's a
definite possibility, We are
attending tournaments in
Brantford, Wingham, Wind-
sor, Sault Ste. Marie and our
own tournament in Seaforth.
We have the same team
members as the" previous
year, plus a lot of good talent
moving up from the junior
team, which will be a great
asset in our season."
All wish these girls the
best of luck and hope they do
win Huron -Perth as well as
WOSSA 'A'.

Team gains momentum
On Wednesday, Septem-
ber 22 the Seaforth junior
boys volleyball team played
to a three -three split in their
first tournament of the year.
During the tournament in
Mitchell, the junior boys
gave up the first three games
but came back to win the last
three.
The team did very well
considering their inexper-
ience. Only one player is a
veteran from last year. The
other 14 players on the team
are "fresh" out of public
school so the team has a lot
of potential for improvement.
The coach is .especially
pleased with the serving
talents -of Martin Andreassi,
one to watch in the future.
The coach Lawrie Charter-
is, is new to SDHS. She is
from Sarnia and has had
experience as a referee pri-
marily during her university
years. She Is very enthusias-
tic about the team - and all
wish her luck.
The team practices are on
Tuesday and Thursdays after
school. Good luck juniors.
Sept. 22. the SDHS volley-
ball team attended a tourna-
ment in Mitchell. The coach,
Mr. Proctor, expressed plea-

year and the results were
excellent, especially consid-
ering the lack of practise due
to the state of the gymna•

in four games out of six.
Mr. Proctor said It is hard
to tell how the team will do In

probably do well because the
teams Seaforth beat on Wed•

There are 13 players on the
team and practices are on

Student Week celebrated
Guy Mush Day, slave day,
farewell to summer, grade
nine banquet and a tabloid
meet are the ways that the
students celebrated Students
Week at SDHS last week.
Monday morning started
out with its normal amount of
noise but after first class the
level definitely subsided. It
was Guy Hush Day which
meant that the guys couldn't
talk to the girls. Each boy
was given a tag with their
name on 11 a( the beginning
of the day. When they talked
to a girl they had to give
them the tag. Heather Ritz
collected the most tags close-
ly followed by Jackie Schenk,
Tuesday the grade nines
were.up for auction. It was
slave day and they were
dressed up in the traditional
diapers and much more. The
grade I Is. 12s and 13s
purchased them. Wednesday
was a cold, wet day but that
didn't stop some of the
students from pulling on
their summer clothes for a
"Farewell to Summer".
Thursday was grade nines
had the treat of hot dogs at
the grade nine banquet.
Friday was the tabloid meet.
Student Week activities
went over well and helped
to rekindle the school spirit.
