There was lots of fun and
excitement at the Vanastra
and Varna Playgrounds last
week, since it was "Backward
Fun Day".
The events included a
no -hand Jello eating contek
cracker relays. marshmallow
•chin pass, sack races, bubble
gum blowing contests and
many more. In Vanastra the
Champions were victorious
over the Dynamites for the
day, and in Varna the
Chargers defeated the
Winning Wizards. At the end.1.3
of the day the winners re',
ceived ribbons and all child-
ren were • treated , to
"Freezies."
The trip of the week to
Goderich was enjoyed by
many children. After the tug
boat ride„ the kids went
swimming at the beach and
then to the Goderich Veteri-
nary Clinic for a our.

was awarded to R. Nicholson
Construction at the tendered
price of 510,000 by Hullett
council at a special meeting
July 19.
Following the court of
revision on the Murray -Lamb
Drainage Works where there
were no complaints. council

A tender submitted by
Radford Construction of
Blyth for road construction on
the town line was accepted by
Hullett township council at its
regular meeting July 13,
The Radford tender was
the lowest of four opened by
council, Radford's total es-
timated cost of $34,500 was
56%900 lower than the nearest
estimate and $13,220 lower
than the highest. Council
discussed the possibility of
the construction continuing
further than anticipated with
the Radford tender. "We'll
go as far as the dollars go"
said Reeve Tom Cunning-
ham. The cost of the gravel
was $1.20 per cubic yard for
"8" gravel and $1.15 per
cubic yard for shoulder clay.
In other council business, a
bylaw was discussed to sub-
mit to the electors at the next
election the following clues(
on: "Are you in favour of the
sale of spirits, beer and wine
under a dining lounge licence
for consumption on licenced
premises where food is avail-
able?" The bylaw was read
three times and approved by
council. "The 'last of the dry
townships gone" said coun-
cillor Joe Gibson.
