Blyth Festival Singers begin new season Happiness is singing in the choir! It is said that singing is good for the body and the soul, and singing in a community choir is all about individuals coming together for the sheer joy of making beautiful music. So treat yourself and join the Blyth Festival Singers as they begin another wonderful musi- cal season! Whether you are a first time participant or a sea- soned singer, there is a place for every voice in our choir. The Blyth Festival Singers is a welcoming, non -auditioned community choir, which has been going strong since 1980. Our first practice will take place on September 9 with registra- tion starting at 7 p.m. Practices are on Wednesdays from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. in the June Hill Room above the administrative building of the Blyth Festival Theatre. The entrance is at the back of the theatre off Dinsley Street. Our first session will be topped off by a social to give everyone an opportunity to meet and mingle. Choir fees are $125 for the season, with a 10 per cent dis- count for a second family mem- ber. Stu -dents fees are only $60. Those who choose to sing for a portion of the season may arrange for pro -rated fees. And first timesingers can attend three free trial practices before committing to the choir! The Blyth Festival Singers' director Sharon Poelstra has planned an exciting line up for the season. The holiday concert on December 6 will feature the new Huron County Children's Choir. On April 10 we will per- form Rutter's Requiem. And our fun and lively May 28 dinner cabaret will feature special guests, the newly reunited "Whiskey Jack': New this fall for choir mem- bers is a workshop and social on September 26 with an opportu- nity to participate in several dif- ferent activities including a vocal and music skills classes, a yoga session, and sectional and full rehearsals. We hope that you will join the Blyth Festival Singers for a year of learning and enjoyment, making good music and friend- ship. And invite your friends as well. Let's get your happy on! The new rules of the road include: Distracted driving will be $490, three demerit points and a minimum 30 day suspension for novice drivers. "Dooring" of cyclists or vehides will be a $365 fine and three demerit points. Drivers must leave a one metre distance when passing cyclists or receive a $110 and two demerit points. When in a community safety zone the fine increases to $180 and two demerit points. Improper lighting on a bicycle will result in a $110 fine. Slowing down and moving over for emergency vehicles stopped at the roadside now includes tow trucks stopped at roadside to assist. A failure to follow these rules will result in a $490 fine.
