A staff report on Summer-
hill Road was brought to the
Nov. 9 committee of the
whole as requested by coun-
cil at the last meeting.
Councillor Marg Ander-
son said she's received com-
plaints about the conditions
of the road and suggested it
needs construction work.
The report lists the road's
grading and lack of experi-
ence of operators as the
main complaints by ratepay-
ers. It states the road had
been graded twice last week
and will be graded on a regu-
lar basis in the future.
Roads manager Tim Sin-
clair said a distinct plan of
where and when the road is
if it's local, it's here
going to be fixed needs to be
established.
Mayor Jim Ginn said he
thought the municipality
needed to look after conces-
sion roads before it dealt
with side roads because it's
where most people live.
"The bottom line is we're
not going to pave the road
until we get it constructed
properly," Ginn said.

At the Central Huron com-
mittee of the whole meeting on
Nov 9 it was discussed whether
the municipality would con-
tinue to share fire services with
Bluewater.
There was a recommenda-
tion received that would extend
a fire services agreement until
Dec. 31.
Councillor Alex Westerhout
said he wanted to know
whether this agreement was
going to be short or long-term
because he said Bluewater

councillors have told him they
are under the impression that
this is a long-term agreement.
"We need to clear that up,"
Westerhout said.
If it is a long-term arrange-
ment then another position
needs to be created because it
isn't sustainable for the chief to
be doing two jobs, he added.
"Bluewater makes it very
clear that they're happy with
the arrangement, said Mayor
Jim Ginn.
CAO Peggy Van Mierlo-West
said there would need to be a
huge reorganization of the fire
department structure if the fire
chief were to continue doing
both jobs. She said she recom-
mended telling Bluewater it
needs to find a fire chief once
the contract expires at the end
of the year.
"I know we talk a lot about
municipalities don't see bor-
ders. When you're dealing with
fire there's definitely borders,"
Van Mierlo-West said.
Chief Dave Renner said the
extra work he does with the
Bluewater fire service tends to
be in the evenings and on the
weekends. He said he was
potentially willing to extend the
contract to March 2016 if the
two municipalities spoke with
one another.
