Winter weather wreaks havoc
on activities at St. Anne's
We've received another blast
of winter, with the coldest weeks
finally upon us thus far. The
annual Winterfest at St. Anne's,
which had been set to occur on
Thursday, February 19th, was
cancelled due to harsh weather
conditions. The event will be
rescheduled to a later date. As
we enter into the season of Lent,
students are encouraged to pray
and give up indifference. Start-
ing at the beginning of March,
the St. Anne's Student Cabinet
will be partaking in various ser-
vice trips across communities of
Huron to keep with the school's
theme of Keep Calm and Serve
On. The service trips are availa-
ble to any student who wishes to
sign up and buses will be availa-
ble as a means of transportation.
In sports, the Boys Basketball
and Girls Volleyball seasons are
coming to an end, leading into a
variety of spring sports
beginning tryouts in March.
These sports include badmin-
ton, soccer, and rugby. The Lit-
eracy Blitz for Grade 10 students
will also be commencing on
Tues., Feb. 24 and will continue
until the first day of March
Break, which begins on the 13th.
Classes will resume on Monday
the 23.

Local proposals being developed
in response to provincial special
needs strategy
A provincial Special Needs
Strategy is being put in place to:
Identify children's needs ear-
lier and get them the right help
sooner
Coordinate service planning
for children and youth with
multiple and/or complex needs
Make rehabilitation ser-
vices (speech-language ther-
apy, occupational therapy
and physiotherapy) more
seamless from birth through
the school years
Having a child with special
needs may present parents with
some unique challenges in get-
ting the services they need. It
can often be confusing to know
where to turn.
Locally, agencies providing
services to children and youth
with special needs residing in
Huron and Perth counties have
come together to develop local
proposals to improve the coor-
dination of services and to inte-
grate rehabilitation services.
Parents and youth have an
important role to play in helping
to shape these proposals. Their
input is being sought through
the completion of surveys,
which can be found at www.sur-
veymonkey.com/s/huron-
perth-parents and www.survey-
monkey.com/s/
