Great results for Huron
Hurricanes at regional
meet in Windsor
Kristy Lyon
Special to the News Record
It was an excellent week-
end in the water for mem-
bers of the Huron Hurri-
canes at the WOSA SC
Regional Championships.
Seventeen of the Hurri-
canes' 50 members swam
fast enough in the first half
of the season to qualify to
race at the meet.
Fourteen of these swim-
mers travelled down to
Windsor from Feb. 6 to Feb.
8 to compete against nearly
1,000 of the best swimmers
from southwestern Ontario.
The Hurricanes raced
hard, many swimming per-
sonal best times in most of
their events, and four raced
to top eight finishes.
Huge congratulations to
Walker Teal (9) from
Goderich who qualified to
attend in his first season
with the Hurricanes. Liam
Fitzgerald (12) from Kin-
cardine swam personal
best times in all seven of his
races over the three-day
weekend and earned eighth
place the 200 -metre butter-
fly event. Paul McAuley
(14) of Goderich finished
sixth in his 200 -metre
breaststroke and eighth in
his 100 -metre breaststroke.
Sumiko Noda (10) also of
Goderich finished eighth in
her 50 -metre butterfly race
and fourth in her 100 -metre
butterfly race.
Natalie VanNiejenhuis
(13) from Dungannon stole
the weekend bringing
home the silver medal in
both the 100 -metre and
1 888 2 DONATE
200 -metre breaststroke
events. Natalie also earned
sixth in the 50 -metre
breaststroke, seventh in
both the 200 -metre IM and
50 -metre backstroke and
eighth place in the 100 -
metre backstroke race.
Her times in her 100 -
metre and 200 -metre
breaststroke and 100 -
metre and 200 -metre
backstroke events quali-
fied her to travel to Etobi-
coke later in February to
race against the best in the
province at the Swim
Ontario Provincial
Festival.
Congrats to all of the 14
Hurricanes that raced at
the WOSA SC Regional
Championships.
Thanks to the parents
who made the drive in
the difficult weather to
support their Hurricane
swimmer. Club members
had fantastic results,
many personal best times
and fun cheering for each
other.

coach of the Huron Hur-
ricanes Aquatic Club.
