Clinton Public School
(CPS) has become some-
what of a cultural mosaic
in the last few weeks.
The school has been
host to 10 students and
one teacher from a Mexi-
can private school, Liceo
del Valle de Toluca.
The students arrived on
Feb. 15 and have been
staying with local children
and their families.
The program is facili-
tated by Red Leaf Student
Programs in partnership
with the Avon Maitland
District School Board.
Gabriela Parejo, the
local coordinator for Red
Leaf, said international
students come to local
public schools for "mini -
stays", which are usually
about three weeks in
length.
The Mexican pupils
were paired students from
CPS based on shared likes
and interests.
During their stay, the
students have visited the
CN Tower in Toronto and
are scheduled to go to
Niagara Falls as well.
CPS vice-principal
JoAnne Knechtel said the
students from Liceo del
Valle de Toluca have
attended regular classes

and taken part in all the
same activities as local
kids do.
"They are here to
immerse themselves in
the culture," Knechtel
said.
CPS students have been
very welcoming of their
visitors.
"There is a buzz in the
air," Knechtel said.
This past Friday, the
school held its annual
Peace Tree ceremony.
All the classes at CPS
created items to be placed
on the school's Peace
Tree.
This year the focus was
on students learning
about their family
heritage.
All the classes put their
own personal spins on the
project.
During the ceremony,
all the visiting students
spoke about themselves
and showed pictures of
their families to CPS staff
