Clinton News Record, 2015-02-11, Page 19OPP NEWS BRIEFS SOUTH HURON - Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers have arrested and charged a 21 year old male with numerous criminal code driving offences fol- lowing some early morning esca- pades on February 1, 2015. At approximately 2:10 a.m. a Huron OPP officer observed a male exit a licenced establishment located on Main Street South in Exeter. The male and his female passenger proceeded to hop onto a Yamaha snowmobile and they sped away travelling westbound on Welling- ton Street. The snowmobile sped by two other police vehicles that were parked in the area of Wellington Street and William Street. One of the officers activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop however the driver failed to stop and contin- ued southbound on Marlborough Street. The officers did not pur- sue the fleeing snowmobile as the driver was driving dangerously and placing himself and others at risk of injury. Moments later, police came across the snow machine laying upside down in the front yard of a resi- dence located on Huron Street West. After the driver crashed his snow machine both he and his passenger fled from the scene on foot. Officers followed their tracks until they located the suspects hid- ing behind a garage on Carling Street. Police were able to arrest both fleeing suspects without incident. Upon speaking with the driver offic- ers noted the male driver had been drinking alcohol and was display- ing signs that he was impaired. He was subsequently transported to the Huron Detachment for breath tests whereupon he provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician. Both of his samples registered over the legal limit. As a result, a 21 year old male from South Huron has been charged with Impaired Driving, Drive Motor Vehicle - Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Flight from Police and Fail to Stop at the Scene of an Accident. He has a court appear- ance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich on March 9, 2015. He also received an automatic 90 day driver's licence suspension and his snow- mobile has been impounded for seven days. The female passenger was released unconditionally. Neither the driver nor the passenger was injured in the collision. BLUEWATER -A 19 year old from Exeter was charged yesterday with three criminal charges following a two vehicle crash that took place in December. On December 19, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provin- cial Police (OPP) and Huron County EMS responded to a two vehicle crash located on London Road just south of Kippen Road. The police investigation revealed the driver of a southbound GMC Sierra pickup truck veered across the center line and collided head on with a Dodge Ram pickup truck that was travelling northbound. Both of the drivers were transported to hospital with serious but non -life threatening injuries. They have since been released from hospital. During the course of the investiga- tion, police determined the 19 year old driver of the GMC Sierra pickup truck had been drinking alcohol and was under the influence of alco- hol. He was subsequently arrested for the offence of Driving While Abil- ity Impaired - Cause Bodily Harm. A blood sample demand was taken from the diver of the GMC Sierra and upon analysis of the driver's blood the results showed the driver had a Blood Alcohol Concentration (B.A.C) above the legal limit. As a result, a 19 year old male from Exeter has since been charged with: Driving While Ability Impaired - Cause Bodily Harm contrary to section 255 (2) Criminal Code Exceed 80 Milligrams of Alcohol (Motor Vehicle) - Cause Bodily Harm contrary to section 255 (2.1) Criminal Code Dangerous Operation of a MotorVehi- cle Cause Bodily Harm contrary to section 249 (3) Criminal Code Young Driver - Drive with a B.A.0 Above Zero contrary section 44.1 (5) Highway Traffic Act. He has been released from custody with an upcoming court appearance scheduled for March 2, 2015 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich. SOUTH HURON - Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers are currently investigating the theft of two sets of rims and tires that were stolen from Huron Motor Products in Exeter. Those responsible attended Huron Motor Products located on London Road sometime between 8:00 p.m. on January 28, 2015 and 5:45 a.m. on January 29, 2015 and they pro- ceeded to steal two complete sets of rims and tires. The stolen rims and tires were removed from two GMC Sierra pickup trucks. The Goodyear Wrangler SRA P27/55R20 tires were on 20" polished rims. The total value of the stolen rims and tires is estimated at $6600. Any person with information regarding this incident should immediately contact Huron OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or (519) 524- 8314.
