Fanshawe College to establish new
site and programming in Goderich
Special to Clinton News Record
Fanshawe College is pleased to
announce the establishment of a new
site in downtown Goderich. Sched-
uled to open in February 2016, the
location at 33 St. David Street in the
'Kingston Block' will provide Fan-
shawe the opportunity to offer a
selection of post -secondary courses
in a prominent setting. Most signifi-
cantly, Fanshawe will introduce a
two-year Business - Entrepreneur-
ship and Management diploma pro-
gram at the site beginning in Septem-
ber 2016. Students will be able to
access Fanshawe Continuing Educa-
tion programming as well.
The Corporation of the Town of
Goderich and the Goderich Business
Improvement Area (BIA) provided
essential support for this project. Fan-
shawe has committed to collaborat-
ing with the Town, the BIA, as well as
local businesses and other commu-
nity stakeholders to promote eco-
nomic development and offer ongo-
ing training opportunities for young
and mature learners alike. Specifi-
cally, the Business - Entrepreneur-
ship and Management program will
provide students with the knowledge
required to launch a small or
medium-sized business, or to manage
an existing business, by emphasizing
courses that focus on management
principles, marketing strategies and
conducting market research and fea-
sibility studies.
A special event will be held in Goder-
ich in the New Year to celebrate the
opening of the new site. Representa-
tives of the local media will be invited
to attend.
Susan Cluett, Dean of the Faculty of
Regional and Continuing Education at
Fanshawe, anticipates building strong
relationships in the community. "Fan-
shawe College sincerely appreciates the
tremendous support of the Town of
Goderich and the Goderich BIA," Cluett
remarked. "We are excited to move into
this terrific site in downtown Goderich
early in 2016. This new location is one
part of our strategy to provide access to
post -secondary education for students
beyond our traditional campus loca-
tions. We felt that it was a natural fit to
emphasize our business programming
in Goderich, and we look forward to
collaborating with members of the local
business community."
Kevin Morrison, Mayor of the Town
of Goderich, helped to attract Fan-
shawe College to the community,
which is known far and wide as 'Cana-
da's Prettiest Town'. "The Council of the
Town of Goderich is excited to support
Fanshawe College in the development
of this new site," stated Mayor Morri-
son. "The programming offered by Fan-
shawe will provide members of our
community, and those from the
surrounding area, an opportunity to
take business courses in a local context.
This means that we can build an inno-
vative community from the ground up,
matching the students at Fanshawe
with mentors in our business commu-
nity, and boosting regional economic
development in the process. We look
forward to welcoming Fanshawe stu-
dents to Goderich!"
Speaking on behalf of the Goderich
BIA, Dean Whalen commented that
"The Goderich BIA is very pleased to
partner with Fanshawe College and
the Town of Goderich in the estab-
lishment of a Fanshawe College site in
our Town. The opportunity to obtain
high quality post -secondary educa-
tion in our community will be a real
benefit to the citizens of Goderich
and the surrounding towns and
municipalities. We welcome the addi-
tional business opportunities that will
be available to our BIA members in
the provision of goods and services
related to this site. We thank Fan-
shawe College and the Town of
Goderich for their efforts toward this
project. We especially would like to
thank the Lake Huron Learning Col-
laborative for their dedication over
the years in bringing educational
opportunities to our local commu-
nity. Without their vision of many
years ago, all of this would not be
happening today. Also, thank you to
the many others who have contrib-
uted their time, energy, and talents to
the realization of this educational
facility!'
