This August 14-16 the Bay-
field Agricultural Society
hosts the 159th annual Bay-
field Fair; a celebration of
everything rural.
For three days the Agricul-
tural Park and Arena in Bay-
field will be filled with exhib-
its in many categories,
including handcraft, wood-
working, flowers, grains and
bean, baking and more.
Outside there is lots of activ-
ity going on too. The largest
midway to come to Bayfield
Fair in a decade will provide 10
to 12 rides for people of all
ages. Three show rings will be
put up in the middle and back
part of the grounds for horse
shows, as well as 4H dairy and
4H sheep shows. This year we
will highlight 100 years of 4H,
with a parade of champions for
both shows in the main sho
ring once they are completed.
On Saturday morning the
western horse show is in the
main show -ring starting at 9
a.m. At noon both 4H shows
will begin and highlight some of
the season highlights for both
dubs. Throughout there will be
family entertainment for young
Ontratif
and old on the grounds, includ-
ing the new youth talent stage,
featuring five tremendous local
acts of music. All profiles are
now listed on the fair website
for a sneak -peak preview.
Sunday features many great
events too, at 10:30 a.m. it is
the second annual Interde-
nominational Church Service
under the Big Tent. Bringing
together all community
churches for a united service
outside went really well last
year, with an offering of $1,530
to Canadian Foodgrains Bank
That donation turned into
$7,650 worth of food aid, once
the government's portion was
factored in. This is a real
chance to make a difference!
Earlier on Sunday the
miniature horse show will
commence and last most of
the morning and afternoon
in the small show -ring. Fol-
lowing the Church service
the heavy horse show will
continue to impress crowds
in the main show -ring. This
year an extra treat for horse
lovers will be spliced into the
heavy horse program.
Two demonstrations with
Friesian horses will be added
during the heavy horse show.
The first demonstration will
be "Ringsteken,' and the sec-
ond will be a cones derby.
Ringsteken is a team accu-
racy game with horse and car-
riage. The event originates out
of Friesland, in the Nether-
lands. The objective of the
game is to go along in a work-
ing-trot
orking-trot past a series of posts
with arms extended that hold
metal rings. The driver's job is
to ensure that they get close
enough and keep up the
speed, while his/her partner
uses a "wooden -gun" to catch
the ring from the hands. This
portion will feature fully attired
turn -outs. If the weather coop-
erates you will have a chance
to see long time Fair contribu-
tor Tom Penhale's final Lan-
deau in action hitched to a pair
of stunning Friesians!
The heavy horses will be
provided with a second break
when the Friesians return later
in the heavy horse show with a
cones derby demonstration.
The second demonstration will
highlight the incredible will-
ingness and agility of the
