High School soccer has wound up its
regular season, and the Seaforth District
High boys' team is resting comfortably in
second place in the 11 team Huron -Perth
conference.
The team, coached by Brian O'Connell,
has a regular season record of five wins,
one tie and no losses. Their most recent
games last week saw Seaforth down
Goderich D.C.I. Vikings 5-1, and their sole
tie came at the hands of St. Mary's last
Monday.
Their first quarter final play-off game is
scheduled for Wednesday, May 16 at 2
p.m. at the Seaforth High pitch, battling
St. Mary's again. Plenty of fan support is
welcome. Should Seaforth win, they will
meet the mighty first -place Stratford Cen-
tral, who are expected to finish the season
6 and 0.
The Huron -Perth finals are ,®tively
set for, May 22.
This is the first year of coaching for
Brian O'Connell, who reports that the team
has put in a lot of hard -work. The team
started the regular season off with 15
players, but lost Brian Melady early in the
season to a tough knee injury. Melady re-
quired surgery: for torn ligaments, but is
reported to be on the mend.
Other team members include goalie
Jason Dietz, Terry Sloan, Jason Schoonder-
woerd, Dave Kelly, Jeff Robinson, Jeff
Genell, Sean Melady, Greg Preszcator,
Karst n Carroll, Kalen Carroll, Jason
Cooper, Kurt Lindemann, Dave Soontiens
and Dan Hoggart.

BRUCEFIELD- A group of 28 young

18 as a guests of Huron Centennial School

Safety first when spraying with pesticides
Often the greatest risk of using a
pesticide is to the person handling the pro-
duct. By wearing the most appropriate
clothing and laundering thoroughly after-
wards, they minimize their exposure.
Here are a few reminders to help have
a safe spraying season. Exposure of the
skin to pesticides is the most common
form of chemical contamination.
Protective Clothing
Long-sleeved shirts and long pants are
essential to reduce exposure to pesticides.
Not all disposable coveralls are equally
protective. The coveralls withredstitching
are the proper type. Clothes made of
polyester are preferred over 100 per cent
cotton clothes because polyester fibres do
not absorb pesticides like cotton does and
can be washed more easily.
The hands almost always become con-
taminated when using pesticides. To pro-
tect them wear unlined, elbow length rub-
ber or neoprene gloves. Leather or cloth
gloves should not be worn as these absorb
and hold the pesticide.
In using a respirator, use the air -
purifying type that uses chemical car-
tridges that should be replaced when a
chemical taste or smell is noticed.
Remember to wear a non -porous plastic
hard hat; but not your ball cap as it can
absorb pesticides. The scalp absorbs
pesticldes much more easily than the hand,
so protection is important.

Laundering
A single heavy duty laundering will
remove 80 to 70 per cent of pesti Ides and
a double wash about 98 per cent. Launder
contaminated clothes separately from other
laundry. Pre-soak clothing before washing
and wash twice in hot water (140 degrees)
with a heavy duty phosphate detergent. To
clean the washing machine of any residue,
run the washer through a full cycle with
hot water and detergent.
