LET THE GAMES BEGIN - Janet Buchanan, Chairperson for
the 1990 Provincial Broomball Championships, wishes the
teams well at the opening ceremonies. Joining her on stage
were local dignitaries and officials from' the local and Provin-
cial broomball organizations. The tournament, hosting over 650
broomball players from Intermediate and Elite teams province -
wide, took place in the Clinton and Seaforth arenas this past
weekend and welcomed close to 3000 spectators. Elliott photo.

at the ball while a Parr Line player sticks close to her heels. Seaforth's Parr Line
won this game 2-1 against Waterloo on Friday morning, going on the two more
semi-final games before being eliminated 2-1 by Barrie Flea Market on Saturday
night. Elliott photo.
Janet Buchanan can be forgiven for feel-
ing a little "numb" this week.
The Chairperson of the 1990 Ontario
Broomball Championships, held this past
weekend in Seaforth and Clinton, Mrs.
Buchanan was still reeling on Monday
after wrapping up an extremely successful
three days of broomball action. The tour-
nament saw over 650 players and coaches
from all over 'the province descend on the
region for high calibre competition.
The play-offs started bright and early at
8 a.m. on Friday, with Seaforth's own
women's Intermediate team, Parr Line, on
the ice.. Janet Buchanan not only oversaw

all of the weekend's activities, she also
took time off to coach Parr Line - her own

Friday night's opening ceremonies were
a gala affair, with all of the players and
officials massed on the ice to witness the
official opening face-off by Seaforth junior
broomballplayers Dan Huggin and Pam
Carter.
The stands were packed for most of the
games. Mrs. Buchanan notes that the
statistics for the weekend won't be
available for a week or two, but estimates
that between 2,700 and 3,000 spectators
took in the games between the two arenas.
Sunday's championship games at the
Seaforth arena drew record crowds.

lding there with their mouths open," she

POMP AND CEREMONY - Over 650 players, coaches and officials jammed the
ice at the Seaforth arena for the 1990 Provincial Broomball Championships open-
ing ceremonies on Friday night. The men's Elite team from Thunder Bay makes
their way past the Seaforth and Clinton Legion color guard. Elliott photo.
The event was operated on a break-even
basis, and Mrs. Buchanan has high hopes
for the financial status of the tournament.
"We're not going to lose a lot of money,
if we lose any at all."
At the opening ceremonies, Mrs.
Buchanan thanked the over 150 volunteers
who were invaluable in the running of the
tournament.
"The key word this weekend is sport-
smanship," she stressed to the players,
citing 'the Olyiiipie creed 'that' the in'ipor-
tauce lies not in winning, but in
participating.
With this in mind, the 1990 Provincial
Broomball Championships were an une-
qualled success for all involved.
