Atom Is win
The Seaforth Atom 1 hockey team finish-
ed firt in the A side of a tournament
hosted in town by the Optimist Club.
The Seaforth Atom 1 team ' came up
against London Major "A" team in the
opener of the Annual Tournament. London
netted the first goal late in the first and
that's all it took 'for Seaforth to get on the
move. Shaun Anstett fed Mark Van Dooren
a pass up the middle and he put it home
to even the score. With 1:20 remaining in
the first period, Shaun Anstett flipped one
in to take the lead.
Both teams were evenly matched and
wanted a win. London scored two quick
goals, followed by two goals for the home
team. Shaun Anstett got his hat trick with
Mark Van Dooren (2), Jason Smith and
Pat Gridzak assisting. With help from
Chris Marion and Mark Van Dooren,
Anstett netted the puck once again for a
two ,goal lead.
It was the third period and Seaforth
wanted to hold their ground. London came
back strong and managed to dose the gap.
Seaforth's Chris Marion thought it was now
or never and slipped one past the London
goaltender. Josh Dietz and Jason Smith
assisted. The clock kept ticking- four
minutes, three minutes. With 37 seconds
remaining London's No. 3 caught
Seaforth's goaltender down and scored.
The game went into a five minute over-
time. If neither team scored, the team
with the most shots on net during the five
minutes overtime would be the winners.
London had taken a "body -contact" penal-
ty and Seaforth had an advantage for one
minute 53 seconds into overtime. During
Asides Of Tournament
this time no goals were scored. but
Seaforth managed two shots on net. It was
back and forth action,' each team working
hard. The buzzer sounded, both teams
scoreless. Seaforth became the victors with
four shots on net to London's two.
GAME TWO
At 2:25 the Atom l's were out on the ice
for the second game of the day. This time
their opponents 'were Waterloo.
Seaforth was on the scoreboard first
when Jason Smith put the • puck home 'on
a set up by Mark Van Dooren and Jered
Munroe. This turned out to be the only
goal of the period.
Seaforth scored the first and only goal in
the second period also. This time Shaun
Anstettt was the sharp shooter with Brent
Hulley assisting.
Waterloo was not about to give up . Less
than a minute into the third period, they
netted the puck. Seaforth answered to that
with two goals of their own. Scorers were
Jason Smith and Mark Van Dooren with
Shaun Anstett assisting both
Seaforth played defensively, but Waterloo
managed' to score one more goal before
the period ended. The final score was 4 to
2 for Seaforth, advancing the Seaforth
,Atoms into the "A" championship.
FINAL GAME
The thrid and final game was set for
8,45—Seaforth vs. Kincardine. Seaforth had
faced Kincardine two prior times, tying
once and winning once in overtime. They
knew their work was cut out for them.
Kincardine, scored twice in the first
period, and although the Seaforth boys had
their chances, they couldn't net the puck.
The, home' crowd started to chant hoping
to motivate their 1 oys. Chris Marion dug
otrV e. puck for Shanty Anstett who one -
timed it into the net. This got them rolling.
Chris once again threw the puck out,
Shaun tipped it over to Mark Van Dooren
who backhanded it high over the Kincar-
dine goalie's shoulder. This made the game
tied going into the third.
It wasn't long before the Seaforth boys
connected again. Mark Van Dooren put
the puck home on a set up by Anstett and
Marion. The crowd was anxious, they had
a one goal lead. Could they hold it? Chris
Marion put their minds at ease, when he
shot one in, on a pass from Brandon Nash.
Mark Van Dooren struck once again for
his hat trick. Jason Smith and Shaun
Anstett assisted. Kincardine fought back
for one more goal and Seaforth finished
the scoring when Mark Van Dooren swung
the puck around and deflected it off an op-
ponent's skate to finish the game.

This week's FITNESS=TPP; '" ., ' 1
1 have read that I should increase my
1
fibre intake. How do I do this?
There are excellent sources of fibre
available in the many whole grain breads
and cereals on the market. Watch for the
words "whole grain", whole wheat," or
"rolled oats" when buying your breads and
cereal. Include raw fruits and vegetables
in your daily diet because they have more
useful fibre than those that have been
cooked, peeled or pureed.
Be sure to drink a lot of fluids and stay
active when you eat fibre - otherwise it
can be constipating instead of

TOO QUICK TO CATCH - This one got by Atom "A" goalie Scott Wood, but it
wasn't enough to win Waterloo rivals the game. Seaforth defeated Waterloo and
later Kincardine to win the "A" title at this weekend's tournament in Seaforth.
SeafortAtom Is do
On Tuesday, January 16, the Goderich
Atoms travelled through the fog to
Seaforth for a league game. The home
team won, however, by 6-3 score.
It was back and forth action during the
first period with neither team scoring.
Seaforth's Robbie Craig opened the scor-
ing early in the second on a pass from
Jason Smith. Jason Smith then scored one
himself on a set up by Shaun Anstett and
Mark Van Dooren. Shaun Anstett was the
next to net the puck, assisted by Chris
Marion.
Before the second period was over
Goderich had scored and so had Seaforth.
This time Mark Van Dooren was the
sharp -shooter with another assist my
Marion.
It was late into the third, before the
e Goderich
scoreboard changed Jason Smith flipped
the puck home with help from Chris
Marion and Shaun Anstett.
Goderich wasn't
about to give up though and netted two
goals. Goderich pulled their goalie hoping
to even the score with an extra attacker.
It was not to be. Chris Marion scor .I an
empty net goal to make the final score 6-3
for Seaforth.
