on Thursday last, Mr. J. E. Swarts won
first money with his race horse, Darkey.
—The Goderich Lawn Bowling As-
sociation have settled on August '7th and
the three following days for their an-
nual bowling tournament.
—The Farmers' Institute excursion to
Guelph on Saturday last was well
patronized, there being 112 tickets sold
at the Wingham station.
—The G. T. R. and C. P. R. offer
single fare rates for Dominion Day trips.

—Last week at Seaforth, Mr. J. E.

Rural schools will re -open on August 20th
and the town schools on September 4th.
—Mr. Thos. Hill, formerly proprietor
of the Exchange hotel of this town has
purchased the hotel business at Beigrave
from Mr.Jas. Stretton and took possess-
ion last week.
—TIMES and Weekly Globe sent to
new subscribers to lst of January, 1907
for 65 cents.
—The Voters' List for 1906 for the
Township of Turnberry has been print-
ed and was first posted in the Clerk's
office in Binevale, on June 22nd. The
list is made up of 202 voters in polling
sub -division, No. 1; No 2, 188; No 3,
130; No 4, 140, making a total of 660.
Persons qualified to serve as jurors, 412.

—Mr. N. L. Brandon, who has been
working in Drayton for some months has
taken a position in S. Gracey's furniture

—Mr L Kennedy's restaurant has been
given a fresh coat of paint this week,
which greatly improves the appearnce of
the store.
—Tenders are being asked for the fit-
ting up of the grounds around the new

—Mrs. Wm. G. Nichols, mother of
Mrs. F. Beck, formerly of Wingham,
died at Harriaton on Sunday in her 95th
year. Interment was made in Clifford
cemetery on Tuesday afternoon.

—The Arthur annual races will be
held on Monday, July 2nd, the program
consists of four good races, three trot or
pace and one run, for whioh $450 is of-
fered in prizes. The Arthur track is
one of the beet in Western Ontario, and
this year's meeting promises to be one
of the best ever held in this section of
the country.

W. E. Crompton, teliereif the Union
Bank at Medicine Hat, went away for
his holidays, but did not return. An
examination of his books shows a short-
age.

Mrs. J. N. Belden, of Winnipeg is
visiting with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.

Mr. and Mrs. F. G. T. Wilson. of
Milan, Mich., are visiting at the home
of Mr. R. Maxwell.
Rev. Father Corcoran of Teeswater
left last week to spend a few weeks in
Ireland and Scotland.
Mrs. John Alderson has returned home
after spending several weeks visiting
with her sister at Woodstock.
Mr. L. A. Ball of Toronto is spending
a few days with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. H. Ball and calling on old friends.
Messrs. John Quirk and D. T. Hep-
burn were in London over Sunday as
guests of Col. Hugh Clark, of the Bruce
Regiment.
Mr. and Mrs. David Beecroft, of
Chicago, are visiting the former's
mother, and other relatives and friends
in East Wawanosh and vicinity.
Mrs A Bennett, of Lucknow, was in
town Monday en route for Auburn to
attend the marriage of her sister, Miss
Jean Straughan to Mr Wm A Mayhew.
Mr. David Weir, of Kilmarnock, Scot-
land, who has been visiting his father,
Mr. James Weir, and other relatives and
friends in this section, leaves next week
for his home in the Old Land.
Mr. Merton Hart leaves next week for
Calgary, where he takes a position as
telegraph operator. Mr. Hart is a
graduate in telegraphy from the Wing -
ham Business College and secured his
position through the College.
