Annaleise Carr, 2012 and 2014
Ontario Junior Citizen, Simcoe, ON
At 14, Annaleise Carr was the youngest person ever to swim
across Lake Ontario. Two years later, Annaleise swam
across Lake Erie. Combined these efforts raised
awareness and hundreds of thousands of dollars for
Camp Trillium, a family camp for children with cancer.
Her book, Annaleise Carr: How I Conquered Lake Ontario
to Help Kids Battling Cancer, inspires others to take on
great challenges and help their fellow citizens.
Do you know someone who is involved in worthwhile community
service, is contributing while living with a limitation, has performed
an heroic act, demonstrates individual excellence, or is going above
and beyond to help others? If so, nominate them today!
Nominations are open until November 30, and nomination forms are
available from this newspaper, and the Ontario Community Newspapers
Association at www.ocna.org or 905-639-8720 ext. 4439.

The September meeting of the Purple
Grove Women's Institute was held at
the P G Community Centre. Hostess
Deanna Scott had the Centre looking so
nice.
Our President Janet Rhody opened
the meeting. The roll call about Alzhei-
mer Disease was answered by the ladies
present, but not by the one -year-old
(she provided the chuckles). Donna
Swan read the Scripture.
In the new business we discussed
the Fall Fair Display that is being
chaired by Wilma Sutton and Diane
Clifford. We were asked to supply pies
for the booth in the Arena. Also dis-
cussed was the working schedule in
manning the booth Saturday
morning.
The ladies who served at the Bruce
County Museum in August reported
having a great time greeting visitors
to the Log House and old School
House.
Our Convener, Christine Roberts
had a brain teasers' contest that had
us put on our thinking caps. Chris-
tine was pleased to introduce our
Guest Speaker, Sandra Hong, Public
Education Coordinator from the Alz-
heimer Society of Grey Bruce. San-
dra was so helpful in educating all
present on Alzheimers/Dementia.
She also encouraged us in areas that
we can help prevent Alzheimers. Of
great interest to everyone present
was the concept of the fidget apron,
placemats, and lap quilts. Our
guests from the Quilter's Guild
shared their experiences with mak-
ing these items. Sandra was open to
accept questions from the folks pre-
sent and capably answered every-
one. Christine thanked Sandra for
all the information and her expertise
and time.

Lucknow well represented at
Kincardine Superwalk
Cathy Hill
On Sunday September 13, the town of
Lucknow was well represented at the
Superwalk with donations received for
the silent auction. It turned into a sunny,
but windy day, just right for a walk.
The 5km or the 2 km routes where
both full of walkers ready to raise
money.
The grand total for the Kincardine
walk was $18,546. Not bad for what
started out a cloudy day.
