4H Ontario is celebrating
100 years this year. Most peo-
ple who were raised in a rural,
farming area know what 4-H
is and how it has touched and
formed them as individuals.
According to the 4-H
Ontario website found at
http://www.4-hontario.ca/,
the original idea began in
the United States in 1901as
seeds donated to children to
grow their own food. The
4-H idea came to Canada in
1913. At that time the organi-
zations were called Boys'
and Girls' club. The website
states, "A Club established in
Waterloo County in 1915 by
Stanley Knapp, a District
Representative for Waterloo
County, has been long rec-
ognized as the first Club in
Ontario from which all of
Ontario's 4-H Anniversaries
have been dated."
4-H has now spread to 80
countries. The 4-H Ontario
site states that, "Everywhere in
ANNOUNCEMENT

to treat patients under oral sedation.
"We are thrilled to be able to bring this service to the
community. We can now assist patients with anxiety feel
more at ease. It may even reduce the number of visits
required to complete treatment."
Oral sedation can range from minimal to moderate. For minimal sedation, you take a pill,
which is usually taken about an hour before the procedure. The pill will make you drowsy,
although you'll still be awake. A larger dose may be given to produce moderate sedation.
This is the type of anesthesia most commonly associated with sedation dentistry.

the world, 4-H shares a com-
mon thread, in that it is based
on a 'Learn To Do By Doing'
philosophy. In Ontario, 4-H
members aged 9-21 and vol-
unteer leaders come together
to create a 4-H club, where
members learn about a
selected topic through hands-
on activities and mentorship.
In the Cloverbud Program,
youth aged 6-8 work with vol-
unteer leaders on a variety of
units, giving them a 4-H expe-
rience over the course of a
year." In another section of the
site it states that if there are six
members and two trained and
screened 4-H leaders, a club
can happen.
Every 4-H meeting or
event is begun with reciting
the 4-H Pledge.
I pledge my Head to
clearer thinking,
my Heart to greater
loyalty,
my Hands to larger
service,
my Health to better

for my club, my commu-
nity and my country.
To recognize the 100th
Anniversary of 4-H in
Ontario, the Lucknow 4H
Beef Club is giving stickers to
the gates people at the Luc -
know Fair which will be given
to anyone entering that has
participated in 4H at some
point in their life as a mem-
ber or a leader. It is hoped
that these stickers will be a
visual indicator at the fair of
just how many people in this
area have been touched by
the 4-H movement.
