Last year, Luc- know's HAWK Theatre pre- sented Dan's play, "The Perils of Persephone','to rave reviews. Before turning his hand to writing plays, Dan worked as a journalist, speechwriter and insurance executive. He spent a lot of time exploring the world, too. After high school, Dan worked for ayear milking cows and chasing sheep in the back- country ackcountry of Australia. He piled lumber in a sawmill in northern British Columbia for a summer and spent another cycling around England and France exploring battlefields, serving beer in a pub and picking agri- cultural crops. Dan found per- manent employment in 1974 as editor of the Free Press & Econo- mist, a small town weekly news- paper near the family farm in southern Ontario. There, he created a column called Letter from Wingfield Farm, which Submitted Photo Author and playwrite, Dan Needles, will be presenting "Land, Culture and Farmer Thinking" at the Lucknow Branch of the Bruce County Library on Friday, September 25, 2015. became the basis for later stage plays. Since 1988, Dan and his wife Heather have made their home at Larkspur Farm in Sim- coe County, within sight of Georgian Bay and the Niagara Escarpment. "Words cannot express how pleased I am to be able to pre- sent an evening like this for the community of Lucknow, says Lucknow Library Branch Supervisor, Grant Robertson. "Like a lot of people, I have been a big fan of Dan's work, so to be able to have him come and speak at the Library is a real thrill. This night would not be possible without the dedica- tion of the Bruce County Public Library and our modem library service, and the help of HAWK Theatre, who will be providing us with the use of the theatre for this event": Tickets will be available through the Library on a first- come, first -serve basis.
