in the side yard as people
filed into the building.
The Master of Ceremonies
for the evening was Shawn

come before the dignitaries
were piped in.
Chair of the building com-
mittee Jim Van Osch declared
the St. Joseph's Community
Kingsbridge Centre open to
the public as he cut the rib-
bon that had been placed at
the head of the centre aisle.
As the ribbon pieces settled, a
loud cheer went up accompa-
nied by enthusiastic
applause. Van Osch pro-
ceeded to the podium to give
a history of the building and
how the committee had been
formed and worked together
with church and political
authorities to purchase, reno-
vate, restore and reopen the
former Catholic Church to the
public as a community hub.

opportunity to thank the com-

their work and dedication in
preserving this historic piece
of the community for them
and future generations.
Jennifer Miltenburg, as a
member of both the building
committee and as a Council-
lor for Ashfield-Colborne-
Wawanosh, was the first of
the dignitaries to speak. She
was energetic and witty in her
thoughts on the work that had
been done and in the power
which had been bestowed on
her to introduce each of her
fellow dignitaries as they took
their turn at the podium. This
power was later commented
on by Reeve Ben VanDiepen-
beek in referring to the fact
that, as a new Councillor,
Miltenburg had chosen to
disrupt the protocol to have
herself speak before her
Reeve had given his speech.
