GILCHRIST, R. Grant - Grant was born on September 12, 1960 in Kincardine Hospital
to Bob and June Gilchrist. Before long he found himself acting as big brother to Murray,
Dale and Dan. Growing up surrounded by dairy and beef cattle helped him develop a love
of farming, strong work ethic and excellent mechanical skills. Grant did well at school and
made friends easily, a trend that would continue his entire life. Despite the hectic pace of
farm life, he made time to pursue his athletic interests primarily in hockey and baseball. He
also enjoyed snowmobiling, riding motorcycles and even played the trombone in the school
band. After high school, Grant obtained a full-time position working for Kinloss Township,
plowing snow and working on road maintenance. His abilities and leadership skills
eventually earned him a position as Lead Hand in Ripley when Huron and Kinloss
amalgamated. He managed to continue to farm while meeting the demands of full-time
employment. In 1983 Grant married the love of his life, Denise King, and they moved into
the farmhouse where he was raised. Two years later they welcomed a son, Brad, followed
by a daughter Jess, in 1987. A good father, he made sure he was there to support his kids
during sporting events and other milestones in their lives. Grant was also instrumental in
his children developing a passion for showing cattle. His interest in the community was
evident, fulfilling roles such as hockey coach and director of the Lucknow & District Co-op.
His many friends knew they could count on Denise and him to be there in both the good
times and the rough moments of life. In turn, they have been incredibly supportive through
his battle with cancer. It goes without saying he will be deeply missed by his family and
friends. He was the beloved husband of Denise (King). Dear father of Brad & Kristie of
Lucknow and Jess & Neil Froats of Clandeboye. Survived by his parents Bob & June
Gilchrist of Lucknow, his mother-in-law Thelma Affleck of Lucknow, and step -mother-in-law
Darlene King of Wingham. Missed by his brothers Dale & Marilynne of Lucknow, and Dan &
Lorelei of Georgetown. Also survived by his brother-in-law Rick & Mag King, and sister-in-
law Michelle & Cory Seguin and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brother
Murray and father-in-law Ernie King. Arrangements entrusted to MacKENZIE &
McCREATH FUNERAL HOME, Lucknow. Visitation was be held on Thursday October 22,
2015 from 2-4 & 6-9 PM, at the Lucknow Presbyterian Church where the Funeral Service
was conducted on Friday October 23, 2015 at 11 AM. Rev. Lynne Wilson officiated. The
pallbearers were: Dale & Dan Gilchrist, Bill Moffat, Pat Murray, Wayne Philips, and Dave
Gibson. Honorary pallbearers included Mark Becker, Mark Kernighan, Steve Eadie and
Steve Simpson. Interment at South Kinloss Cemetery. Donations to the Lucknow 4-H Beef
Club, Lucknow Minor Hockey or Community Nursing Services are appreciated as
expressions of sympathy. Memorial information and condolences online at
