Grant - Grant was born on September 12, 1960 in Kincardine Hospital to Bob and June Gilchrist. Before long he found himself acting as big brother to Murray, Dale and Dan. Growing up surrounded by dairy and beef cattle helped him develop a love of farming, strong work ethic and excellent mechanical skills. Grant did well at school and made friends easily, a trend that would continue his entire life. Despite the hectic pace of farm life, he made time to pursue his athletic interests primarily in hockey and baseball. He also enjoyed snowmobiling, riding motorcycles and even played the trombone in the school band. After high school, Grant obtained a full-time position working for Kinloss Township, plowing snow and working on road maintenance. His abilities and leadership skills eventually earned him a position as Lead Hand in Ripley when Huron and Kinloss amalgamated. He managed to continue to farm while meeting the demands of full-time employment. In 1983 Grant married the love of his life, Denise King, and they moved into the farmhouse where he was raised. Two years later they welcomed a son, Brad, followed by a daughter Jess, in 1987. A good father, he made sure he was there to support his kids during sporting events and other milestones in their lives. Grant was also instrumental in his children developing a passion for showing cattle. His interest in the community was evident, fulfilling roles such as hockey coach and director of the Lucknow & District Co-op. His many friends knew they could count on Denise and him to be there in both the good times and the rough moments of life. In turn, they have been incredibly supportive through his battle with cancer. It goes without saying he will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He was the beloved husband of Denise (King). Dear father of Brad & Kristie of Lucknow and Jess & Neil Froats of Clandeboye. Survived by his parents Bob & June Gilchrist of Lucknow, his mother-in-law Thelma Affleck of Lucknow, and step -mother-in-law Darlene King of Wingham.
