The Lucknow Sentinel, 2015-10-28, Page 101 o Lucknow Sentinel • Wednesday, October 28, 2015 CGIT Celebrates 100 Years Laura Lee Cayley Nearly 60 former CGIT members, leaders and friends were welcomed to Lucknow United Church on October 17, 2015, with a huge banner, to celebrate 100 years of Canadian Girls in Training. Elizabeth Irvin gave each a name tag and a paper to write a memory. The room was decorated with flowers, balloons and special favour boxes with candies for each part of the purpose. After renewing friend- ships, visiting and viewing memorabilia, the women were welcomed by Laura Lee Cayley. The service of worship and memories began with the lighting of the Candle of Remembrance by Barb Willits. Recognition of early members was led by Marg Hofer. Eight women over 85 were presented with Anni- versary pins; local ones were Anne Anderson, Mar- garet Finlay, Margaret Fer- guson, Ruth Prichard and Marian Zinn. Others were Betty Audet of Palmerston, Mildred Griffith of Bervie and Jean Meisenheimer of Port Elgin. Margaret Mow- bray and Janet Cook were unable to attend. Doreen Mali led in the CGIT Purpose. Ruth Dob- rensky remembered Mary Edgar who wrote the CGIT Hymn and "Pass It On". Gail Dolson, Ontario Executive Secretary, gave an update on three Ontario CGIT groups and those across Canada. Memories by a 92 year old were read by Mary Lynn Zardkanlou. Remembrance Service Nov. 11, 2015 Parade from Legion for 10 a.m. service at Presbyterian Church Members of the community are invited to place their poppy on the wreaths at Cenotaph following the parade leaving for the Legion memories. Those helping prepare for this event were thanked along with Karen Spanswick and Valerie Gillies for taking pictures. Everyone circled to room to sing "Taps" and say thanks for 100 years. All enjoyed the beautifully decorated cakes after the cutting by the eight women honoured earlier. The celebration contin- ued at worship on Sunday morning when CGIT par- ticipated in the church's Anniversary Service. Doreen Mali and Marg Hofer led in the Children's Time on the parts of the CGIT Purpose, to Cherish Health, Seek Truth, Know God, Serve Others. Laura Steffler read the Scriptures. The message was given by Morrison cousins, Lee Morrison -James, Steph- anie Russel and Emily Morrison. They shared about their lives and how CGIT influenced them. The group sang accompa- nied by Mary Lynn Zardkanlou. Barb Willits lit a Candle of Remembrance at the CGIT 100th Anniversary celebration on October 17, 2015 following the welcome given by Laura Lee Cayley. Several CGIT members joined together to form a choir, accompanied by pianist Anne Pritchard, at the 100th Anniversary celebration held October 17, 2015, at Lucknow United Church. Memorabilia was on display on October 17, 2015, in the Lucknow United Church for CGIT members to enjoy before the celebration of the 100th Anniversary of CGIT. The ladies present at the CGIT 100th Anniversary celebration on October 17, 2015, joined hands to form a circle around the room in Lucknow United Church to sing "Taps" to conclude the program. E 0 a) a Q) fn O a C.) Carter's Crokinole Report Peter Carter There was a great turnout for crokinole at the Old Scone Schoolhouse on Wednesday, October 21. After competition was complete the scores for the men were high Neil Cook with 45, Clare Kuepfer with 40 and third place was a tie of 36 points between Al Carter and Peter Carter. Twenties saw Al with 43, Neil with 34 and Clare with 28. Scores for the ladies were also very close with a tie for first between Cathy Kuepfer and Janet Diebel with 43 points, Jo -Ann Carter with 42 and Carol Cook with 41 points. In the twenties com- petition Jo -Ann was high with 27, Cathy had 22 and Sharmane Carter had 18. Lucky door prize winners were Sharmane, Carol and Janet. Our next evening will be Wednesday, November 4 at 7 p.m.
