The Lucknow United
Church U.C.W. annual tur-
key supper was held on
October 20 at the Lucknow
Community Centre with
two sittings at 5 and
6:30 p.m.
This supper started in
October 1887 as a harvest
home supper at the
church serving 300-400
people with a program fol-
lowing. In December 1910
a hot fowl supper was
served on the Monday fol-
lowing anniversary ser-
vices on Sunday with
entertainment following.
In later years it was
changed to the Tuesday
after anniversary. In Octo-
ber 2002 the turkey supper

Over the years the
numbers have topped up
to 450 with over 300
served this year. The
ladies, men and young
people of the church
served a delicious hot tur-
key supper with all the
trimmings as a fund-
raiser for the United
Church Women.
The tables filled quickly and in an orderly manner for the second sitting of the Lucknow UCW turkey
dinner held at the Community Centre on October 20, 2015.
The ladies in the dessert kitchen at the Lucknow Community Centre were kept busy cutting and
putting whipped cream on a variety of pies during the Lucknow UCW dinner on October 20.

ladies met in the church
basement on Wednesday,
October 14 at 7 p.m. We
invited ladies from the
Christian Reformed
Church, Lucknow Presby-
terian and United
Churches.
Marilyn Maclntyre and
Kathy Howald served a light
lunch as we arrived.
Kathy started the evening
with us singing a hymn
"Come Ye Thankful People
Come". Then she said a
prayer. Marilyn read the
scripture lesson and Mar-
garet Hamilton did a story
of Sowing Seeds from God's
Harvest. Again we sang
"For the Fruits of His
Creation".
Marilynne Gilchrist
introduced our speaker,
Erin Gilchrist, who went
to Kenya, Africa, where
she worked on a Water
Project. Erin told us a very
interesting story of her
time there. There were five
ladies living in a brick
house and they had elec-
tricity, some gardens and
trees, like banana trees.
Tea is their main export.
They had five springs to
repair. They have lots of
mud where they have to
work in. They made con-
crete walls and built steps
which was good for ladies
to carry the pails of water
up to level. These
people were very happy
and thankful for these
girls to come over to help
them have some good
drinking water or just
clean water.
After we had our WMS
meeting for about 15
minutes to finish up
our business for this
meeting.
