Piles of metal and debris were
all that's left of two buildings on
the Alton farm south of Lucknow.
Smoke billowed from the site
just south of Belfast corner in
Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh
Twp the afternoon of Nov. 18,
2015.
A dog barked at the farm house
and Cam Alton surveyed the scene
of the fire at his father Steve's farm.
"We're not sure what started it,"
said Alton. "The old bank barn
started, took the shed with it. There
were two separate buildings here...
it just cooked everything:'
Lost in the fire were numerous
pieces of farm equipment and
straw in areas that were used for
storage. No injuries were reported.
The fire started about 6 p.m. on
Tuesday, Nov 17 Alton said, and
about 50 firefighters from Luc -
know, Ripley, Ashfield and sur-
rounding area worked until 4:30
a.m. Wednesday to put out the
blaze. Dozens of tanker trucks of
water were needed to extinguish
the blaze.
Firefighters were called to return
to the scene Wednesday afternoon
to put out fires that reignited, due
to high winds that day.
A blackened silo on next to the
buildings was also structurally
compromised by the fire and will
have to be demolished, he said.
"The heat messes with the con-
crete," he said.
Damage estimates are said to be
about $1 million.

The events that happened last week
in Paris, France shook everybody up,
but some heartening things have come
out of it. Many of you have probably
seen the video of the little boy being
interviewed along with his father in
Paris and how the father explained that
although a terrible thing happened, we
still have flowers to show the terrorists
that we still have love and hope.
Another heartwarming event hap-
pened in the subway system in Mon-
treal a day or so latet Three young men
(roommates at University) whose fam-
ilies came from three different coun-
tries, the U.S., Egypt and France and
filmed byaTurkishfriend, stoodhand-
in-hand saying "these are my brothers,
they cannot separate us." A good
example for all of us as many in the
subway noticed and game them many
hugs of friendship and solidarity.
